Hopeful Ajax players point to PSV as their biggest competitor: “There’s still going to be a lineup exodus to come”

Since 2022, there has been little to cheer for the Ajax faithful in terms of winning trophies in the area of prices. In that year, the league title secured the last prize to date, and since then the Amsterdammers have had to watch as the last three of the four league championships went to PSV.

For some time now, there has been a crisis in Amsterdam also on the administrative level. Since Erik ten Hag left, the capital’s residents, compared with PSV and Feyenoord, have already burned through multiple coaches without success.

Still, the people in Amsterdam are full of optimism about the 2026/2027 season. This is evident from multiple conversations that VoetbalPrimeur had on the Albert Cuyp market in our capital.

In particular, the work of the new technical director, Jordi Cruijff, is greatly appreciated. ''I really like the way he works,'' says one of the Ajax supporters. ''I hear names like Real Madrid and players on loan from FC Barcelona, he has good connections,'' tells another fan.

In addition, Ajax has a new coach with Míchel, but nevertheless another Ajax player believes that the club should not have appointed a coach who was relegated with his previous employer Girona. In addition, PSV is seen as the biggest competitor for the coming season.

''PSV has naturally lost a few players, but they now have that boy from AZ,'' they are referring to Sven Mijnans. ''So I think PSV will be in the mix again,'' it is concluded when asked about the status of the Ajax squad compared to that of PSV and Feyenoord.

''Feyenoord has brought in a good coach with Van Bronckhorst, but yeah, he’s also had a mass departure. And PSV: they’re going to experience a mass departure as well. Saibari is going, Veerman is going, the goalkeeper is going. So they’ll also have to prove it again'', it sounds hopeful in Amsterdam.
