Former Ajax player praises Peter Bosz: “It’s great what he’s putting together at PSV.”

At the start of this calendar year, it was still uncertain whether Peter Bosz would also be trainer of PSV next season, or whether he might possibly become the new national team coach of the Netherlands. Bosz himself told Monday evening at Rondo on Ziggo Sport that he would have liked to become national team coach if the KNVB had approached him.

Despite this, the option to replace Ronald Koeman with Peter Bosz was never seriously considered for top football manager on behalf of the KNVB and former Ajax player Nigel de Jong. For De Jong, there is a chance that Koeman will also remain the head coach of the Netherlands after the World Cup.

This tells it to the former footballer to De Telegraaf, Nu.nl, AD and Trouw. Despite this, De Jong has nothing but praise for how Bosz is performing at PSV, which on 1 February, after the won match against Feyenoord (3-0), announced that he had signed on for two more years as head coach of PSV.

''I think Peter is a very good coach indeed. And it’s great what he has been putting forward at PSV. But Peter has never come up in my case, because there is now no vacant position for the national team coach, and there hasn’t been one either'', the top football director makes clear.

After the upcoming World Cup, a decision will be made within the KNVB as to whether Koeman will remain in his role as national team coach or whether a different direction will be chosen. ''So far, he is still the right coach for me. We still work well together. He is our current national team coach. We have confidence in a good World Cup and want to become world champions. After that, we will take a logical next step,'' De Jong says about it.

Nevertheless, De Jong is also working on any other names. ''Or did I informally approach national team coaches? No, I haven't done that. Ronald is the national team coach for us and we have a great deal of confidence in him. The decision is not made until after the World Cup. We want to create a bit of peace internally with that. The focus has to be on performing at the World Cup,'' concludes the former World Cup finalist.
