'Erehaag was painful for Ajax'

1 min read

Over the past few days, the prelude and aftermath of Ajax – PSV have mainly revolved around the tribute arch formed by the Amsterdammers for PSV prior to the match at the Johan Cruijff Arena. So brothers Willy and René van de Kerkhof considered it a nice gesture from the Amsterdammers, and there were also opponents.

Marciano Vink and Ronald Waterreus were not in agreement with this tribute and, among other things, there were calls for the Netherlands not to adopt football traditions from other countries. The tribute was then received by the public at the Johan Cruijff Arena with mixed feelings.

So Sjaak Swart stayed completely still, and whistles could be heard from other sections when Peter Bosz’s team entered the field. In addition, there was also the necessary applause from the Amsterdam crowd for the Dutch champions.

In the De Rood Wit Podcast, the honour guard of the Amsterdammers is not skipped either. Guest Tommie van der Leegte asks PSV supporter Pascal van der Voort what he thought of Ajax’s honour guard.

Van der Voort reacts clearly. ''Painful. Especially for them'', he says firmly. ''I found it delightful. I found it rather nice'', the presenter Jessy Hobbelen responds next.

''But then you’re standing there clapping like that, and those PSV players are all running straight ahead, and then you’re standing there. But I have to say: none of them stopped. You can also say after five seconds: 'I’m done with this''', says Van der Leegte afterwards.
