Earnie Stewart praises Feyenoord

1 min read

Feyenoord has a new managing director. The club from Rotterdam-Zuid has a new general director, in addition to the fact that the club is also almost securing a new technical director. Will it make a big difference in the coming years, for example for PSV?

Time will tell, it’s as simple as laying the cards on the table. Feyenoord has performed more than 40 years in a much less stable way than PSV and, to a lesser extent, less stable than Ajax, so even with a strong general manager like Eenhoorn, it seems the differences between PSV and Feyenoord won’t be much different from what has been the case over the past four decades.

Once again, time will tell. Earnest Stewart was previously employed at AZ, where he operated together with Robert Eenhoorn. Stewart can only be glad for the people of Rotterdam.

Stewart is indeed full of praise for Eenhoorn. "He really stands for what he stands for. He started in Alkmaar not in the easiest period, but I appreciated him from day 1 for his clarity, straightness of approach, and vision”, Stewart says to the Algemeen Dagblad.

Hans Kraaij jr. also can find common ground with the vision and approach of the new general director: "Robert absolutely doesn’t have long toes; he can handle criticism very well. But people who play games or conduct politics—he can easily see through that, and they will hear about it."

The ESPN analyst said he had talked about it earlier about Unicorn: "You can't get any more Rotterdam than that; you can't get any more direct than that. I know him fairly well, but I deliberately left him alone", he said. "You can't get any clearer than that, and at AZ he, together with Max Huiberts, has shown that there is calm, stability, and no craziness. That they don't do ad-hoc things. So I understand that he is what they will opt for."

“He is a managing director who does not involve himself in technical matters, because there is a technical director for that. They kept that well separated. But if, for example, Robin van Persie is considering not giving Quinten Timber the captain’s armband, as at the start of the season, but instead giving it to young guys like Anis Hadj Moussa, Sem Steijn and Givairo Read. Then he is the kind of person who says: ‘Robin, don’t do that, man’. That’s who he is too.”

Eens. The defensive shape has to be sharper or we will pay again on set pieces. Come on PSV, make it nasty at home. 🔥⚽

ROFL, if they keep letting the winger cut inside, it will be a long night. 😂 Need more cover and quicker decisions in the final third, otherwise it ends 1-0 again...

"PSV Inside" is finally talking about the build-up without sugarcoating it. The way they target the half-space is promising, but do we really trust the back line to step up every time? 🤦‍♀️

Idk... I love the energy, but some of the decisions in the final third feel mid. They need one player to be more selfish, not everyone trying to pass it into the net 💀

Eens. When they kept the tempo high, it looked like 2023 again, quick decisions and intent. If we can defend set pieces better, this could be a proper title push. 🚀💯

That tactical shift might be good on paper, but i worry about the transition defense when the fullbacks get too high. Smacks of last season all over again if we lose the ball in midfield.

The best part is that the build-up looks more direct now, not that slow sideways stuff. Frimpong or Tillman should get more touches in the half-space, it screams goals 👀⚽

We shouldnt rely on one side every attack. If the article is suggesting more balance, yes please. Otherwise teams just sit in and double whoever gets the ball first. 100%

Wie kijkt mee? 😅 This kind of game will be decided by one transition, either PSV go 2-0 or it gets messy.

If PSV play like that again, i swear the pressing looks so much cleaner. 👀🔥 Gut feeling: they still need one more runner in midfield though, otherwise teams sit in that pocket.

Tbh Ihattaren in that role could be fire, if he actually connects the midfield with the final third. When he slows it down, we look like we are thinking too much. 🚀

tbh the biggest question is the striker link-up. If he drops into the half-space, Sangare and Veerman can play through immediately, if not then we recycle too much. This is where we win or draw games. 🙄

I thought the fullback positioning looked a bit risky, especially when the ball turned over in midfield. If PSV lose that battle, the counter chances for the opponent grow instantly.

"PSV inside" is exactly what we needed, that internal chemistry in possession is finally clicking. But the wing runs must be sharper, otherwise it turns into predictable passing. 😍⚽

i still think our transitions are too slow. Against teams that sit deep, the wide options dont get created early enough, and then it becomes guesswork. need more speed in the first 10 passes.

"PSV Inside" keeps talking about tempo, but we still look shaky when the first pass goes wrong. We win duels, then lose the second ball. That is where points get dropped. 💀

If PSV really want to press like this, then the midfield has to win the second balls. Dumfries running like a madman is fire though 🔥

Bruno Martins Indi at CB feels way more stable than last season, you can see the calm on the ball. If Veerman is allowed to press less, that midfield suddenly looks dangerous. 👀🔥

Zirkzee not pressing like a maniac is probably the difference between a good and a bad night. Idk if the coaching staff will accept that trade-off or if we need more structure without the ball.

If PSV are really keeping the 4-3-3 but asking the fullbacks to stay higher, that could unlock the wings fast. But only if the 6 is disciplined because otherwise FC transition them to death. 👀
