Already, €80 million was put on the table for the beloved PSV player, but Memphis is preferred.

After an excellent half-season at AS Roma, former PSV striker Donyell Malen is set to play in the World Cup with the Netherlands national team. Malen started in the last two friendly matches, but was unable to score in them.

Despite a wealth of chances, the striker failed to score against Algeria (0-1) and Uzbekistan (2-1). Now the former PSV forward is on the cover of Men's Health magazine.

In that magazine, the striker looks back on his career to date. ''I was always busy with football and never had any other thoughts than football. It was simple: I would become a footballer. If that hadn’t worked out? Then I might be working in the snack bar or something like that now,'' Malen tells.

In 2017 the striker came to PSV via Arsenal, and in 2021 the forward left for thirty million euros to Borussia Dortmund. In London, Malen learned to grow up at a young age. From Dortmund, Malen left for 25 million euros to Aston Villa, which last month in turn managed to collect another 25 million euros from Rome. In short, over the years more than 80 million euros had been put on the table in total for the still much-loved PSV Donyell Malen. 

''I went there to develop myself, to train with the first team and to discover other cultures. For the first time, I had to take care of myself, cook, and grow up. I met many new people and other talents'', says the former PSV striker candidly about it.

In 2010, Malen was only eleven years old at the World Cup in South Africa when Oranje reached the final and, after extra time with a 0-1 loss, had to bow to Spain. ''That World Cup dream was still a long way off then. Now the tournament is close. I want to be important, make goals and go for the top prize. I'm so excited'', said the forward, who, according to Martijn Krabbendam of Voetbal International, nevertheless needs to take a step back against Japan. Krabbendam thinks Memphis Depay will start up front and will therefore get the preference.
