Baking criticism of NOS commentator during PSV player’s World Cup match: “So fucking bad”
1 min readMaybe there’s nothing as frustrating as watching a European Championship and in this case the World Cup Football via NOS. In particular, the level of the commentators forms a source of irritation for many football fans in the Netherlands, and that is not entirely without reason.
Unlike the German broadcasters ARD and ZDF, the Belgian Sporza on VRT and the English Match of the Day on the BBC, at NOS there is also really not a single commentator who brings any passion and enthusiasm to his way of reporting, apart from Jeroen Elshoff and Jeroen Grueter. Even at the match Switzerland - Bosnia-Herzegovina (4-1), where PSV player Esmir Bajraktarevic came on in the second half, Dutch football fans were completely bothered by commentator Frank Wielaard.
Where earlier Philip Kooke and Jan Roelfs also had to bear the brunt, Wielaard is not spared either during the match between Switzerland and Bajraktarevic’s Bosnia. A selection from the reactions:

Yeah ok, je mag kritiek hebben, maar het is nog erger als je een PSV'er als Esmir Bajraktarevic ziet en de verslaggever mist de details. Dit was gewoon mid commentating, geen voetbal. 👀
"Zo f*cking slecht" zegt genoeg. Als je een PSV'er als Bajraktarevic ziet invallen, moet je in elk geval even het spel lezen en duiding geven. Dit was meer commentaar dan analyse, en dat is echt zonde.
Idk waarom ze niet gewoon Elshoff en Grueter vaker inzetten. Wielaard klinkt alsof hij elk doelpunt eerst moet checken of het wel telt. Bij 4-1 tegen Bosnië moet je toch wat meer flow hebben 🤬⚽
"Zo f*cking slecht" is misschien grof, maar tbh ik snap de boosheid. Als Bajraktarevic inviel wil je tempo, energie en inhoud, niet zo'n vlakke toon. NOS heeft echt te weinig passie op die momenten.
Tbh ik snap de ergernis wel. Op ARD/ZDF of Sporza heb je tenminste tempo in het verhaal, bij de NOS lijkt het vaak alsof ze alles ondertrekken. Je wil gewoon weten wat er tactisch gebeurt, niet alleen klachten.
That NOS vibe is echt altijd een beetje mid. Bij die uitspraak 'zo f*cking slecht' dacht ik: finally iemand zegt het. Elshoff en Grueter tenminste met vuur, Wielaard is gewoon matig tot pijnlijk.
Frank Wielaard was echt peak frustratie. Zo'n wedstrijd en dan commentaar alsof het een training is. Vrij duidelijk dat i het niveau niet brengt.
Hoe kan je zo'n duel saai maken. Frank Wielaard klinkt echt alsof hij het publiek aan het overleven is. Bajraktarevic kwam net in en je hoort vooral frustratie.
