Will PSV be the only Brabant club in the Eredivisie next season?
1 min readSince the establishment of the Eredivisie in 1956, PSV has been a regular fixture in the highest tier of Dutch professional football. In addition, several fellow clubs from the province played in the Eredivisie for many years, and each season saw at least two Brabant clubs in the Eredivisie.
Change may come next season. Due to the relegation of NAC Breda from the Eredivisie, there is a chance that North Brabant will have only one club in the Eredivisie next season with PSV.
This is because fellow provincial team Willem II lost at home last Wednesday the first match in the play-off final to FC Volendam (1-2). The Tilburg side plays the return match on Saturday evening in the fishing village and must win by at least two goals to earn promotion to the Eredivisie.
In the previous season, the Eredivisie still had four clubs from North Brabant with PSV, NAC Breda, RKC Waalwijk and Willem II. However, the two latter clubs were relegated to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, meaning that this season only PSV and NAC Breda represented North Brabant in the Eredivisie.
In the 2004/2005 season, the Eredivisie still had six clubs from North Brabant. Besides PSV, FC Den Bosch, RKC Waalwijk, Willem II, NAC Breda and RBC Roosendaal also played in the Eredivisie at the time, and only the people from 's-Hertogenbosch were relegated from the Eredivisie that season of all the Brabant clubs.

2004/2005 was echt bizar qua Brabant: PSV, Den Bosch, RKC, Willem II, NAC en RBC. En nu zitten we met de mogelijkheid van 1 club. Dit zegt wel iets over hoe moeilijk het is om structureel mee te draaien in de Eredivisie 💀
2004/2005 met zes clubs in de Eredivisie en nu kans op 1... dat is echt een reality check 💀. Willem II moet minimaal met twee goals verschil winnen, en dat is geen "moeiteloos" opdracht. Imo PSV gaat dit seizoen opnieuw het voorbeeld moeten zijn voor Brabant.
Noord-Brabant kan straks dus alleen met PSV in de Eredivisie staan. Dat NAC gedegradeerd is en RKC en Willem II ook weg zijn, laat wel zien hoe dun het niveau soms is. Toch vind ik dat PSV niet achterover mag leunen, je ziet hoe snel het weg kan glijden.
Die regel dat je "minimaal twee Brabantse clubs" gewend was en dan nu ineens risico op 1 club... echt surreal. Willem II moet met twee doelpunten verschil winnen, dat is tricky, zeker met 1-2.
Tbh, NAC eruit en Willem II in die play-off tegen Volendam... als Tilburg het niet pakt dan heb je gewoon straks alleen PSV uit Brabant. Wel lekker ego boost voor ons, maar voetbaltechnisch is het toch jammer voor die regio.
Tbh die historie vanaf 2004/2005 laat zien dat Brabant altijd brede smaak had in de Eredivisie. Nu degradeert alles achter elkaar en blijft er bijna niks over, echt jammer voor de hele regio. 👀
Willem II moet daar winnen met minimaal twee doelpunten verschil. Dat is zelden simpel, zeker tegen Volendam, dus dit scenario voelt al alsof PSV 'de enige Brabantse club' weer makkelijk kan worden.
Idk, als Willem II ook niet promoveert wordt het echt wrang voor Brabant. Tbh, 1 club is gewoon te weinig voor de rivaliteit en de sfeer in de competitie, zeker als PSV het altijd zo goed doet.
iemand zegt vaak "Brabant is PSV", maar ik wil gewoon ook Willem II en NAC erbij. Als Volendam dat vasthoudt, dan is het ineens 1 club, en dat voelt toch te kaal. 🔥
Brabant met maar PSV in de Eredivisie is echt niet ideaal hoor. Maar als Willem II thuis al 1-2 achterstaat en ze moeten met 2+ verschil winnen, dan wordt het lastig om die traditie vast te houden.
Als Willem II faalt in Volendam dan is het echt 1 Brabantse club alleen... brutaal jammer. Maar tbh PSV moet gewoon doorgaan waar het mee bezig is, dat is de enige manier om die regio te bewijzen.
