Former PSV player has no high expectations of Sneijder and Van der Vaart: "I don't believe it"
1 min readThis week it became known that analysts Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart are going to start their own podcast on Ziggo Sport under the name Wes and Raf. The first episode of the new podcast was released on Wednesday.
Former PSV player René van der Gijp, himself part of the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp, has no high expectations for the podcast with two former midfielders. ''They'll do it together? That won't work. I don't believe in it. They are incredibly nice guys, but still, whenever I see little Sneijder, I feel a bit sorry for him,'' Van der Gijp says in his own podcast.
His table mate, and also a former PSV player, Wim Kieft, thinks differently. Kieft believes that Sneijder and Van der Vaart are quite fun together.
The reason the two former footballers start a podcast together is the fact that in the past they have often said that they want to hold a position at Ajax. ''If you’re such a big player and you then say that you’d really like to do something at Ajax. Then say it'', Gijp continues.
According to the Dordrecht analyst, the duo should clearly make known what position they would like to aspire to. ''You can better say right away what you want to do. Van der Vaart also had that for a long time. Be a bit specific about what you can do,'' concludes Van der Gijp.

Kieft heeft wel gelijk dat ze leuk zijn als duo, technisch zitten ze ook niet te kijken. Maar als de insteek vooral Ajax-gedachte is, dan verwacht ik vooral gebabbel en weinig tactiek. Gijp zegt niet voor niks "wees even concreet", en dat mis ik online ook vaak.
Van der Gijp is me wel, maar "Je kan er beter gelijk bij zeggen wat je wilt doen" is ook echt een punt. In zo'n podcast heb je toch richting nodig, anders wordt het losse praat zonder duidelijke insteek. Wim Kieft zegt leuk, maar ik wil inhoud, over tactiek en keuzes, niet alleen namen.
Wim Kieft heeft gelijk imo, chemie tussen twee spelers is al 50 procent. Maar René zijn punt over concreet blijven is ook terecht: als je Ajax wil adviseren, zeg dan gewoon welke rol je wil. Anders krijg je alleen voetbalpraat zonder richting. 🔥
tbh ik snap René z'n punt wel. Sneijder en Van der Vaart zijn totaal niet het type dat iets concreets brengt, het blijft altijd een beetje praten over vroeger. Met zo'n podcast is dat fun, maar "Ajax"-ambitie erin roepen en dan vaag blijven is wel mid.
"Zij gaan het samen doen? Dat wordt niks. Ik geloof er niet in." Tja, René is weer lekker scherp, maar ik vind het wel onterecht. Twee oud-middenvelders kan juist pittig goeie gesprekken geven, als ze het maar over voetbal tactisch houden. 👀
tbh ik snapp wel waar vd Gijp vandaan komt. Sneijder en Van der Vaart zijn charismatisch, maar podcasts hebben vaak structuur nodig, niet alleen namen. Ben benieuwd of "Wes en Raf" meer inhoud heeft dan roddels.
idk why iedereen meteen zo hard oordeelt. maar tbh als René zegt "ik geloof er niet in", dan snap ik de twijfel wel. sneijder en van der vaart kunnen gewoon te veel ego en te weinig structuur hebben...
