Valentijn Driessen points to PSV: ‘A lot was invested then’

1 min read

The first weeks of the summer transfer window have already kicked off and Ajax currently seems to be more active in the transfer market than PSV. PSV recently signed Sven Mijnans and sold Ismael Saibari to FC Bayern Munich.

For the rest, things have still been fairly quiet at PSV up to this point, but recently PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of the Eindhovens Dagblad revealed that Earnest Stewart is behind the scenes working with big names. In Amsterdam, Daley Blind was recently brought back, and goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen also appears to be on his way to Ajax.

It also seems that the residents of the capital soon will be able to welcome Marcos Leonardo. According to Valentijn Driessen of De Telegraaf, TD Jordi Cruijff is now pulling a trick that is familiar at PSV.

''Well, they haven't spent that much yet. They're spending nineteen million now, but they've also received 27 million for Sean Steur. Even though that often happens in installments. They've also saved on salaries; the guys with very big contracts are gone'', Driessen begins on Today Inside Oranje.

After that the journalist comes with colleague Mike Verweij. ''I spoke to our club watcher Mike Verweij. He said: they will probably bring forward revenue as well. Revenue that they still have to receive from players they have sold, for example Antony. You then bring that forward to invest and give Ajax so much quality that they can indeed compete for those top positions,'' the journalist continues.

''What I understood from it is that he said: we have to go all-in as well. Otherwise the next coach will be up again, and the next technical director. You have to truly invest once'', Driessen continues.

Afterwards, the reporter points to PSV. ''PSV did that too, right. They sold the land under the stadium and the training complex and then made a major investment. Now some enthusiasm is finally coming through,'' the journalist said.
