Ajax tried to steal the PSV deal
1 min readSven Mijnans has been officially a PSV player since Monday. Mijnans is coming for an amount of thirteen million euros from AZ and has signed a contract until mid-2031.
Besides PSV, Ajax also had interest in taking over the midfielder, but nonetheless the 26-year-old Mijnans gave his okay to PSV. Even so, it hadn’t taken much for the Amsterdamers, at the very last moment, to have gone after the newly minted PSV player instead.
With that news, PSV watcher Rik Elfrink from the Eindhovens Dagblad is coming out with it. Elfrink reports that Ajax had a great deal of interest in the midfielder before he moved to PSV.
Despite this, the residents of the capital were unable to get Mijnan to Amsterdam. Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij reported that the fact that PSV will be active in the Champions League played a major role in the midfielder leaving for Eindhoven.
In addition, Elfrink is able to report that there are more reasons behind the fact that Mijnans chose PSV over Ajax. ''At PSV, he had a good feeling and the club had been pursuing him for longer. He sees the club as the route to reach the next step in his career'', says the journalist, quoted by VoetbalPrimeur.
Besides PSV’s interest, Mijnans was also on the radar in Germany, and yet the midfielder’s choice fell on PSV. In addition, Elfrink also reports that Mijnans and his circle are not happy about the fact that Ajax’s interest has become public.

Niet blij dat de interesse naar buiten kwam... fair. Maar kijk, als PSV langer achter hem aan zat en de omgeving zei ook nog ja tegen Eindhoven, dan is dit geen kaping meer, dit is gewoon PSV dat wint.
"Bij PSV had hij een goed gevoel" klinkt mooi, maar ik ben benieuwd hoe snel hij zich aanpast op druk en ritme. Als het door CL komt, dan moet hij ook echt leveren, anders voelt het straks toch als een mid transfer.

Ik ben vooral benieuwd hoe Mijnans direct gaat passen naast Luukx en Zahavi-achtige types, want anders blijft het een investering op papier.
Tbh snap ik wel dat hij voor PSV koos. Champions League is top, maar als PSV al langer achter hem aan zat en hij "een goed gevoel" had, dan is Ajax gewoon te laat of te onzeker geweest. 👀
Ajax dat al "probeert te kapen" voordat hij zelfs officieel PSV'er is, haha 🤡. Ik snap wel dat Mijnans zegt dat hij bij PSV een goed gevoel heeft, maar ngl vind ik 13 miljoen niet goedkoop.
13 miljoen en tot 2031, dat is echt een statement. Als Ajax zo lang aan hem trok dan snap ik het wel dat Rik dit zo benadrukt, maar dan moet je wel doorpakken met speelminuten en ritme. 💯⚽
Je merkt wel dat Ajax er zwaar op zat te drukken. Maar als PSV inderdaad Champions League als argument gebruikte, dan is dat logisch, Eindhoven is voor stappen duidelijker dan Amsterdam nu.
13 miljoen voor Sven Mijnans en dan nog Ajax-gedoe erbij... tbh wel lekker dat hij PSV kiest. Als hij in de CL basis speelminuten pakt, is dit echt een goated deal.
