Aad de Mos pleads for new national team coach: 'Best time'
1 min readIt hasn’t escaped Aad de Mos that the Netherlands have been eliminated from the 2026 World Cup in North America. According to De Mos, the KNVB would do well to, after the elimination, part ways with national team coach Ronald Koeman.
This informs De Mos in conversation with television channel ESPN after the Netherlands - Morocco match. According to the former coach, this is now the ideal moment for a new national team coach to step in.
''It is the best moment for a new national team coach to step in now. With his own vision and new players. A number of players are past their best and will no longer make the next World Cup. I think there is a lot of work for Nigel de Jong'', the native of The Hague told ESPN.
The analyst would have gladly seen Peter Bosz as the new national team coach, but the coach extended his contract at PSV until mid-2028 as recently as 1 February this year. ''Bosz has extended his contract with PSV and is no candidate. I think he is very principled and PSV also wants nothing to do with it. You need a new coach quickly. Arne Slot is available and as for the rest I don't know any candidates at the moment'', continues the former coach.
According to De Mos, Slot is an ideal coach for Oranje also in the way he deals with the media. ''He has a vision and a way of playing. He has come into contact with the real star players, and that isn't so easy to work with. I think he can communicate it well to a players' group. And I also think that he is very strong in the media. I would give Slot a call,'' the former coach said.

Volgens mij overschat men de "media kracht" van Arne Slot een beetje, maar ok. Als Slot echt Oranje zijn voetbal en druk laat spelen, dan ben ik fan. Wel ben ik benieuwd of de KNVB hem kan halen zonder dat het een enorme rompslomp wordt.
Peter Bosz als optie was natuurlijk logisch, maar hij heeft bij PSV gewoon verlengd tot 2028. Aad zegt ook zelf dat hij principieel is en PSV niks wil, dus dit blijft gewoon een reality check.
Iets met "spelers over the hill" is natuurlijk cru, maar het moet wel. Slot noemen als overdraagbare speelstijl en communicatie kan, al snap ik ook dat PSV-spelers niet per se klaar zijn voor Oranje-rollen.
Peter Bosz "geen kandidaat" omdat hij bij PSV blijft, begrijpelijk, maar bruh ik snap wel de gedachte. Je wil toch een coach met voetbal-kennis en discipline. Voor Oranje is dat top, maar voor Bosz is het gewoon PSV energy.
If De Mos is right, then Oranje moet NU praten met Arne Slot. Media-omgang is echt onderschat, en Slot lijkt me volwassen genoeg om niet in paniek te raken na kritiek.
Nigel de Jong als bondscoach-assistent of echte spil vind ik wel een goede gedachte. Je ziet hoe hij er tactisch staat, maar goed ook met jonge spelers kan schakelen.
"Het is het beste moment voor een nieuwe bondscoach om nu in te stappen." Eindelijk iemand die het ook zo ziet. Koeman eruit en met een frisse visie, logisch.
Aad zegt dat je met eigen visie en nieuwe spelers moet komen, maar Koeman had toch ook al genoeg materiaal. Nigel de Jong als richtinggever klinkt eerlijk gezegd best logisch.
"Beste moment" is wel heel duidelijk van Aad. tbh Koeman eruit en doorpakken, maar ik vraag me af of de KNVB niet te laat was met de keuzes.
