These three talents are permanently added to the A-team by PSV.
1 min readWithout the players who are still active or who have since been at the World Cup in North America, PSV started preparations for the 2026/2027 season on Monday, 29 June. Peter Bosz’s team is going for the fourth consecutive national title.
PSV announced Tuesday morning that the talents Joël van den Berg (19), Fabian Merién (17) and Tijn Smolenaars (21) will be permanently transferred to the first team. Goalkeeper Smolenaars will take the place of Niek Schiks, who has left on a loan deal for provincial rival RKC Waalwijk.
Van den Berg and Merién already made all their official debuts with Peter Bosz’s team, and in addition, talents such as Jim Koller, Amir Bouhamdi and Jordy Bawuah hope to be able to prove themselves for a place in the first team. There has also been a change in the coaching department.
It will almost certainly not have escaped anyone that PSV was looking for a new right-hand man for Bosz. Earlier, André Ooijer decided to stop after the away match against FC Utrecht (1-2) on 21 December 2025, to be subsequently replaced by Ibrahim Afellay.
Also Afellay decided to stop as an assistant coach half a year later, and over the past few weeks rumors have been circulating that Bas Sibum would sign at the Philips Stadium. PSV has now confirmed this news, and Sibum will be the assistant coach for Peter Bosz for at least two seasons.

Smolenaars neemt de plek van Niek Schiks in door die verhuur naar RKC. Snap dat PSV wat schuift in keepers, maar hoop dat het geen daling in niveau wordt. Tijn is talent, maar de druk is wel anders bij de hoofdmacht.
Smolenaars in, Schiks weg (huur naar RKC) en dan meteen vertrouwen geven. Ik ben benieuwd of Bosz dit seizoen weer voor pressing gaat of dat we iets meer controle willen. 👀
Rechterhand Bosz was echt een issue, maar Bas Sibum voelt als een slimme keuze. Hopelijk gaat het ook niet alleen om tactiek, maar om snelheid in training en die automatismen die Bosz wil. 🔥
Van den Berg en Merién erbij is echt goed nieuws, zeker als je kijkt naar hoe PSV talent durft te brengen. Smolenaars als opvolger van Schiks vind ik logischer, hopen dat hij meteen rust kan brengen in de spits-van-mijn-gevoelens van Bosz.
Joël van den Berg en Fabian Merién naar de A-selectie, dat voelt als echte stap voorwaarts. Als Bosz ze meteen betrouwbaar kan laten spelen, dan hebben we eindelijk weer die doorstroom waar PSV om bekend staat. Smolenaars die Schiks vervangt, daar ben ik wel benieuwd naar.
