“Future PSV-1 coach” looks back
1 min readPSV won last Tuesday the local derby against FC Eindhoven 3-0. At PSV, Stijn Schaars was on the bench as coach, and that had to do with obtaining his UEFA Pro diploma.
Afterwards, Schaars spoke with Maddy Janssen of PSV TV. The coach of Jong PSV looks back on the win against the city rival with satisfaction. Inside the PSV boardroom, Stijn Schaars is doing very well. Schaars could just as well end up taking on the role of head coach of PSV 1 in the future.
''I think we play the first half really well, creating chances, and above all maintaining control so that they actually don’t get a moment in front of our goal,'' begins Schaars.
Still, the second half of PSV looked less impressive to the former midfielder. ''In the break, point out what could still be done better, but instead of it getting better, it got worse, and I think that also has to do with the fatigue of the young players who this year have played very little, and then when they all independently make wrong choices, it quickly gets worse as well,'' continues the coach of Jong PSV.
The former pro is also asked how Jong PSV is doing at the moment. “I don’t have any idea about that. But, of course, a lot of boys have been training with the first team for four weeks as part of the preseason. Now some of the boys are gradually returning because a whole lot of internationals are coming back, and we’re basically building around that now. But the fact that they’ve been allowed to train along with the first team for four weeks means they’ve trained at a high level,” Schaars says about the state of Jong PSV.
Against FC Eindhoven, Guus Til, Armando Obispo and Esmir Bajraktarevic were in the starting lineup, and Schaars also looks back with satisfaction on their performance. ''They bring calm to the boys, and I think that is really good for those young players to have such guys around them. Guus has an unparalleled work ethic, Armando who wins all of his personal duels. That gives so much calm to a team. And Esmir is, of course, incredibly skilled. That helps our boys, so in that regard they did it just fine'', said the former assistant coach.

Guus in work ethic ongekend, Armando al zijn persoonlijke duels winnen, en Esmir supervaardig... dat trio geeft echt comfort in Jong. Ben benieuwd of Schaars dat leiderschap kan vertalen naar PSV 1, maar het lijkt me dat hij intern serieus wordt genomen 🔥⚽
Guus Til en Obispo in de basis, en dan zegt Schaars dat het rust geeft. Kijk, dat geloof ik wel, want Bajraktarevic is ook gewoon een gamechanger. Goed dat Jong PSV ook die mix laat zien, dit ruikt naar doorstroming. 👀⚽
"In plaats van dat het beter werd, werd het minder" snap ik wel, maar dit klinkt ook alsof PSV het groeide met de intentie en daarna in zakte. Vermoeidheid van jonge spelers is logisch, maar dan moet je wel slimmer omgaan met keuzes. Ik ben benieuwd hoe vaak dit dit seizoen gebeurt.
3-0 tegen FC Eindhoven en Schaars op de bank, dat is echt lekker. Vooral die eerste helft met controle en kansen was precies waar je op hoopt. 🔥
Schaars zegt: "in de rust aangeven wat eigenlijk nog beter zou kunnen, maar in plaats van dat het beter werd, werd het minder". Daar zit wel een punt, maar ik hoop dat PSV 1 dan vooral niet hetzelfde patroon krijgt. Guus Til en Armando Obispo in de basis werkte dus blijkbaar voor rust en duelwinst, heerlijk.
3-0 in de Lichstadderby, dat blijft altijd lekker. Ik snap die eerste helft-complimenten, maar die tweede helft klonk eerlijk best logisch door vermoeidheid en die jonge onafhankelijke keuzes... tbh dat zie je vaak bij Jong.
