1 min readAfter PSV had already presented Sami Ouassa as its new player on Tuesday evening, the club has now also announced the arrival of Ayoni Santos. Santos joins PSV for five million euros from Sparta Rotterdam and signs a contract through mid-2031.
The attacking midfielder will play for PSV with shirt number 35 and takes that number over from Joël van den Berg. Van den Berg has moved to Celtic, and that is why that shirt number became available.
Santos has, after his official presentation, spoken out for the first time about his arrival at PSV. ''It were exciting days, in which I hoped that everything would be arranged in time'', the attacking midfielder begins, referring to the fact that the transfer window is almost closing.
''I'm enormously proud that I can now call myself a player of the best club in the Netherlands. The next step is to show on the pitch what I'm capable of. I describe myself as a fast player with a strong dribble, who is good at winning back balls and has a lot of game intelligence'', continues the newly signed PSV player.
In addition, the attacking midfielder also expresses some ambitions. ''Ultimately, I hope to become a regular starter and of course win trophies'', Santos said.
Technical director Earnest Stewart has also spoken out about the transfer of Santos to PSV. ''Ayoni is a creative and dynamic player, strong in one-on-one situations, with the energy and intensity that we are looking for. Although he is already at a fairly high level right now, we believe there is still plenty of room in his development. That is why we have deliberately decided to bring him to PSV now. We are convinced that Ayoni has a great future ahead of him'', said Stewart.

Spannende dagen inderdaad, transfermarkt bijna dicht en dan tekent hij medio 2031. Ziet er alsof hij er zin in heeft: snel, sterk in dribbels, en over spelinzicht. Als hij het tempo echt kan dragen in Eredivisie, dan is dit een banger 🔥
Santos neemt 35 over van Joël van den Berg en dat voelt als dezelfde rol, maar met meer snelheid en 1-op-1. Als PSV hiermee de creativiteit verhoogt, dan is dit een upgrade. Anders blijft het gewoon een talententransfer zonder garantie 💯
Je ziet wel de visie: niet alleen techniek, maar ook energie en intensiteit. Als hij sterk is in balverovering en spelinzicht, dan kan hij helpen om hoger druk te zetten. Alleen vraag me af of hij genoeg doelpunten/assists toevoegt, want "basisspeler en prijzen winnen" is mooi, maar PSV wil ook productie.
Stewart zegt dat er nog veel rek zit in zijn ontwikkeling, dus misschien geen directe starter. Maar als hij basisspeler wil worden, dan moet PSV ook echt durven om hem te vertrouwen in de opbouw en in de omschakeling 👀
"hoopte dat alles op tijd zou rondkomen" tbh dat transferdeadline-drama is al een vibe. Maar ik hoop dat hij niet alleen praten heeft, ik wil hem meteen in het plan zien, meteen impact.
Ben benieuwd naar die één-tegen-één en balverovering. Als hij echt die energie en intensiteit brengt, dan kan hij best wat wedstrijden beslissen. Wel oppassen dat hij niet een extra 'luxespeler' wordt zonder rendement 😅⚽

5 miljoen voor Ayoni Santos klinkt best slim. Basisspeler willen worden en dan ook meteen "snelle dribbel + ballen veroveren" roepen, dat past wel bij wat PSV nodig heeft op de as. Rugnummer 35 overnemen van Van den Berg voelt ook als een duidelijke rol.
