1 min readThe grapes are sour in Nijmegen and that feeling can be called understandable. NEC coach Dick Schreuder wasn’t quite defeated by it in the stadium of Olympiacos, but the frustration and disappointment were spilling from his face.
Somewhere it belongs, but let’s be honest. Sano would like to get into the Champions League with PSV, not with NEC, so it turned out that on Tuesday there was only one option, and that was leaving NEC’s training camp. Schreuder gave extensive text and explanation to the gathered press in Olympiakos’ stadium.
"I want everyone to be occupied with this match. It is of course always difficult when a player says that to you", Schreuder began, speaking about Sano's request. "On the one hand you know it's deeply rooted, on the other hand you think: 'nice then... I assumed you would play at least two more matches'", he said about his first reaction. "Also because I know what has been agreed internally."
"If a player comes to you on match day with such a request, you’re not happy about it," the coach continued. "Then you have to look at what you do with it as a coach." Schreuder then took the Japanese player with him to the player group so he could tell the news himself. "At half past ten he walked with me over to the group. There he explained that he couldn’t play. After that I asked him to leave the hotel, because I want everyone to be focused on this match."

"Daarna heb ik hem gevraagd het hotel te verlaten" zegt genoeg. Dit is niet alleen frustratie, dit is disciplinaire reactie om de focus te houden. Tbh ik vind het wel logisch, al is het natuurlijk sneu voor Sano en de groep.
This is one of those situations where both sides are right. Schreuder zegt letterlijk dat hij iedereen bezig wil met de wedstrijd, en dat is professioneel. Toch klinkt het ook alsof Sano intern al wist hoe het zat, en dan is het verzoek minder 'spontaan' dan NEC doet voorkomen. 👀
"Daar heeft hij uitgelegd dat hij niet kon spelen." tja, dan is het dus eigenlijk een deadline-issue geweest. Voor PSV fans is dit wel logisch, maar tbh het blijft zuur richting NEC. Als je hem laat tekenen voor CL-ambitie, dan accepteer je ook dat de timing impact heeft.
Idk bruh, maar dit klinkt alsof NEC hem gewoon niet meer vertrouwt in het proces. Zuur voor Nijmegen, maar waarom ga je dan uberhaupt nog opstellen/denken aan spelen als je hoofd al elders zit? 👀
Sano wil CL met PSV, prima, maar ik snap Schreuder ook wel. Als je intern al afspraken hebt en dan met zo n verzoek komt op wedstrijddag, krijg je spanning in je selectie. Hopelijk loopt dit bij PSV juist beter door in de voorbereiding.
Idk, i snap Schreuder wel. Als Sano 'op de wedstrijddag' met zo'n verzoek komt, dan kan je als trainer echt niet doen alsof het normaal is. Maar bruh, als je al intern afspraken hebt, dan moet je dat ook gewoon nakomen.
