PSV received many millions, but former key player and PSV fan could go to England.

1 min read

Last summer, Malik Tillman left PSV for Bayer 04 Leverkusen for a fee of 35 million euros. According to Eindhovens Dagblad, PSV wanted to bring Tillman back this summer, but the club was told a 'no' from Germany.

The midfielder had no successful debut season at Die Werkself, partly due to a strained relationship with the Danish coach Kasper Hjulmand, who succeeded Erik ten Hag. Under the Dane, the former playmaker landed on the bench in the second half of the season, and partly because of that, Tillman expressed a desire for a transfer.

Now the German newspaper BILD has come out with the report that the American could go to Brighton & Hove Albion and had made a bid of as much as 45 million euros. Despite this, the Germans did not agree to that proposal.

Brighton would like to add an extra midfielder to the squad before the end of the transfer window. Therefore, according to BILD, The Seagulls are pushing for the arrival of Tillman, who in turn is still a PSV fan and keeps the club in his sights.

In Brighton, Tillman was reunited with Olivier Boscagli, with whom the American played for two more seasons at PSV. Last year, Boscagli left PSV on a free transfer to continue his career in southern England.

Brighton wanted him as late-window extra midfield depth and even reunite him with Boscagli. That makes it sound like the plan was ready, just not the agreement. Honestly PSV dodged a bullet or Leverkusen overvalued him, idk 🤷‍♂️

The part about the relationship with Kasper Hjulmand is telling. No minutes, then he ends up on the bench, and suddenly he requests a transfer. PSV would've loved to have him back, but if the player situation is messy, the price can't be the only lever.

"nee" uit Duitsland he... wow. Then Brighton comes with 45m and Leverkusen says not today again. Smells like they dont want to sell a player who is mentally checked out, peak business from them ngl 😂

tbh Tillman with Boscagli back together could have been a proper story for him in England. That connection with the guy he played two seasons with is fire. Still, I wonder if Leverkusen just want to judge him again or they are dreaming about an even higher offer.

"De club kreeg een 'nee' te horen vanuit Duitsland" lol ja natuurlijk. Maar kom op, 45 miljoen en dan toch niet akkoord, BILD maakt het wel spannend... Brighton of PSV, hij had licht moeten brengen bij ons ⚽🔥

I actually get Leverkusen's side. If Hjulmand didn't trust Tillman and then he forces a move, keeping the asset for a better fit makes sense. But honestly, 45 million Brighton money is still a lot to turn down.

tbh Tillman bij ons was pas echt nodig als er controle in het midden kwam, maar met Hjulmand snap ik dat het misging. Als hij onder druk richting bank eindigt ga je toch praten over een transfer, logisch.

For PSV fans this is painful. We tried and got a flat "nee" in Germany, and now BILD says Brighton offered 45m for Tillman anyway. 35m to lose him then 45m and they still say no... cap?

35m eruit en dan nu 45m op tafel bij Brighton, echt pijnlijk. Tenminste geen "nee" gekregen zonder reden, maar als BILD dit klopt hadden we hem gewoon moeten pushen.
