Not working on the transfer: “I can’t respond to that right now.”
1 min readLast week it became known that former PSV defender Denzel Dumfries will make the move from Internazionale to Real Madrid. The right back has a departure clause of twenty million euros in his contract, and Real Madrid is willing to put that amount on the table.
Currently, Dumfries is preparing with Oranje for the World Cup in North America. Monday afternoon local time, the defender played with the Netherlands national team the friendly match against World Cup debutant Uzbekistan (2-1).
In the 1-0, Dumfries played an important role with a through ball to winger Crysencio Summerville. Summerville was then brought down in the penalty area, after which Oranje was awarded a penalty that was converted by Cody Gakpo.
Afterwards, Dumfries was not pleased with the play of the Netherlands national team and the defender also received a question from ESPN reporter Pascal Kamperman about his transfer to Real Madrid. ''I am here now focusing on the Netherlands national team with the World Cup. I can’t address that now. Now our full focus is on the first match we are going to play. After that, we’ll look further into it'', Dumfries responds.
Later, SBS6 reporter Noa Vahle also went to ask Dumfries about his upcoming transfer, and Vahle was also outspoken to Vahle that the focus is on the World Cup. ''You can do everything, of course. We are of course here. The biggest stage, the World Cup. All the focus is going there. But of course I’m a happy man, but we’re here on a mission,'' the defender concludes.

I respect the focus on the World Cup, but the answers are a bit generic. Still, the quote about "missie" klinkt wel oprecht. If Real really pay 20m, they are buying exactly that attacking instinct. 👏
"we zijn hier met een missie" oké, maar breng dan ook even die intensiteit terug in verdedigen. Want z'n succesmoment is top, maar ik wil ook zien dat hij minder gaten laat vallen. Als Real hem nemen gaat, moet hij nog stapjes zetten. ⚽
2-1 tegen Oezbekistan en Dumfries meteen meteen de aanval aanjagen. tbh dit is precies het type fullback dat je in big games zoekt. Als Real hem echt voor 20 miljoen pakt, dan is dat gewoon een deal. Wat een level... 😅
Eens... je ziet dat hij niet aan transfer praat, maar wel speelt alsof ie elke bal wil slijpen voor Crysencio. Toch vond ik Oranje soms rommelig achterin, ondanks die 2-1. 🔥
"Daar kan ik nu niet op ingaan" is netjes, maar ik vind het ook een beetje koud als je ziet hoe PSG/Real altijd al weken kaarten aan het stapelen zijn. Wellicht was de deal al rond en wil hij geen chaos in de groepsfase. Gok dat Nederland hem straks hard nodig heeft aan de rechterkant. 👀
Real Madrid voor 20 miljoen, dat is echt een late-career move. Maar in zo'n wedstrijd tegen Oezbekistan zag je ook hoe belangrijk die snelheid en service van Dumfries is. Als PSV dit type rightback had gehad, waren we misschien al jaren rustiger met de opbouw.

Die steekpass voor Summerville bij die 1-0 was echt lekker. En dan krijg je van ESPN meteen transfer-vragen, logisch dat hij afkapt. Hij klinkt alsof hij echt gefocust is op die eerste WK-wedstrijd. 🔥
lol begrijp ik wel, WK komt eerst. Maar tbh die 20 miljoen clausule voelt alsof PSV nog steeds in die transfer-verhaallijn hangt... Zonde dat we hem niet in Eindhoven konden houden 🔥
