Kenneth Perez on internationals: ‘He has to go from AZ to PSV’

1 min read

AZ-spits Mexx Meerdink was Sunday for Oranje good for two goals. As a result, the Netherlands won 1-2 against Serbia.

Meerdink made his debut last Thursday against Germany as a substitute for the injured Brian Brobbey. The AZ striker had a big chance in the second half, but it was not taken.

A few days later in Belgrade, it was indeed a breakthrough for the attacker. Meerdink managed to convert a penalty in the first half and in the second half to make it 1-2, following an assist from PSV player Guus Til.

According to ESPN analyst Kenneth Perez, it is in AZ’s best interest to move to another club as soon as possible. Perez says this in the program Voetbalpraat on ESPN.

''For me, it was just a matter of time. Give that boy a chance. That boy hasn't played full matches for years in a row, because Troy Parrott was a first-rate striker. But not everyone can do that. The way he strikes the ball, the way he lays it off'', the Dane praises.

Collega Marciano Vink is also lyrical. ''When I see the finesse of Meerdink… I don’t see that yet in Brobbey. Last season, it was still said that he doesn’t press as much as Parrott. Now he’s being praised because he presses brilliantly. Extra focus has also come for him; he has to take that with him to AZ'', says Vink.

Then Perez hooks in again. ''Actually, he has to leave there. He really has to leave there; he needs to be triggered. Some players need stimuli. He has only played a few full matches for AZ, so it may be a bit premature, but this counts double and more'', said the former footballer.

In the end, Arno Vermeulen also joins the discussion and Vermeulen mentions PSV as a possible new employer. ''At AZ they’ve already worked out a little equation this week. Money is going to come onto the market there. PSV will surely bring him back. He’s going to Eindhoven soon,'' said the former commentator.

Arno linking it straight to Eindhoven is peak confidence 😂. AZ will do the math, sure, but PSV has to be smart, Brobbey or Meerdink type, just getting "goals" is not enough, it's about pressing and build-up too.

Guus Til with an assist again, you love to see that. If Meerdink can finish like in Belgrado after coming in against Duitsland, PSV should at least scout him properly 👀.

"Hij moet echt daar weg" is such a Perez take lol. Tbh let him earn it at AZ, unless PSV comes with a real plan and game-time promise. If Til keeps supplying, then yeah, Meerdink could cook at Eindhoven 🔥⚽.

Meerdink scored two for Oranje and still they act like he must leave immediately... imo he deserves minutes, not a panic transfer. But if PSV really triggers him, thatd be kinda exciting.
