IMAGE comes with an update on the PSV target

It is no longer a secret for some time that PSV wants to strengthen their back line with Lutsharel Geertruida from RB Leipzig, and earlier Sky Sports Deutschland reported that there is a lot of competition for PSV in the race for the defender. Geertruida, according to Eindhovens Dagblad, would also have been in verbal agreement with PSV for some time, but according to the German newspaper BILD, the former Feyenoord player has doubts about a transfer to PSV.

BILD knows that the Orange international is one of the players who is allowed to leave RB Leipzig. The club from the former East Germany would want to receive eighteen million euros for the defender.

''The defender, who recently played for Sunderland on a loan basis, is about to leave the club. PSV has an interest. Leipzig, however, is determined to sell him and is asking, according to BILD, €18 million – an amount that PSV cannot afford. That is why the club wants to loan the Dutch international, possibly with an option to buy, since he will have only two years left on his contract next summer,'' BILD writes.

In addition, according to the newspaper, salary also plays a major role in Geertruida’s doubts about making a definitive move to PSV. ''He doesn’t want to leave permanently, because then he would lose too much salary,'' the newspaper continues.

However, the club management of Die Roten Bullen has no interest in a loan spell and would prefer to sell Geertruida permanently, as BILD knows. The defender is also said to be attracting interest from Spain and Italy, but according to the newspaper the Oranje international has no interest in that

''There are also offers from Italy and Spain, but only from clubs that are ranked 11th or lower. Not interesting for him, since Geertruida wants to play in the Champions League,'' according to BILD.

Yet according to De Telegraaf there is a possibility that RB Leipzig will change its mind towards the end of the transfer deadline and loan out the defender after all rather than selling him and that this would offer opportunities to PSV. ''The Eindhoven club's aim is to loan Geertruida for one season during Jerdy Schouten's absence due to a cruciate ligament injury. Geertruida is open to that. A loan is not RB Leipzig's preference, but if Geertruida sticks to his guns and puts other options aside, the Bundesliga club may well eventually give in to reduce the size of the squad,'' the newspaper writes.

''PSV will still have to be patient for that and, moreover, runs a considerable risk, because if, in the meantime, an option presents itself for a permanent move that appeals to both Leipzig and Geertruida, then the league champions could miss out and the alternatives will no longer be there for the taking'', according to De Telegraaf.
