Future Joey Veerman | Technical director of Borussia Dortmund can’t get around it

1 min read

A board member of the German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund does not hold back on the matter of what the club is looking for. In that respect, Joey Veerman seems to be on his way to the Borussias.

Of course, the relevant director of Dortmund also knows that the Veerman rumors are not made up out of thin air, and yet they still make themselves heard after all the Veerman rumors. That may be taken as a sign of things to come.

Borussia Dortmund also simply needs new midfielders. Technical director Ole Book talks to the German WAZ about the club's transfer plans this summer, which seem to be getting underway quite late. Book does not deny that it is still looking for a creative six—the profile that Joey Veerman fully fits.

"We have seen that we have very good players in that position. On the other hand, you also have to say that we don’t have that many good players in that position. That’s why it’s sensible to take a look at it", the director is clear about the transfer plans of his club.

The technical director speaks openly about the wishes it has regarding the profile of the midfielder. "If you also play with that, together with our three central defenders, it becomes too static', says Book about the profile of a suitable midfielder.

It has now become known that Joey Veerman will be taken over by Borussia Dortmund from PSV. More later.

The defence looked shaky when the press got bypassed. If we want to keep clean sheets, we cant let runners start in half-spaces, Sangare/Bruma (or whoever fits) has to protect the gap quicker.

"We need more tempo" - facts. When the ball moves 2 seconds faster, those wide channels open up and the crowd sees real football. More of that please 🔥⚽

Bro the quote about 'control' better mean control in the final third too 😅. Possession without end product is just mid at home.

"We need better control in transition" is exactly the problem. Till that midfield settles down after turnovers, Luukx style runs or not, we keep getting hit on the counter. 👀

Luuk in the No. 9 spot feels risky. I love his workrate, but if the article is right and we are relying on him for link-up, then we better start scoring off the second ball because chances dont come easy.

If PSV went with that mid-block again, i get the idea, but we need more pressure triggers. Too many times they play themselves into trouble by stepping up late.

The bit about the pressing trigger was spot on, tbh. When they step in with the wingers instead of waiting for the CB, it forces bad first touches. Lets go, no excuses! 🔥

If PSV really plan to play with a narrower midfield like the article says, then Sangaré has to be brave on the ball. Otherwise teams just overload the half-spaces and we look shaky. 💀
