ESPN analysts call for direct transfer of Ajax player to PSV: “He was captain”
1 min readSuddenly and out of nowhere, the name of a real Ajax player appears in connection with strengthening PSV’s defense. For weeks, if not months, PSV has been hunting for the right central defender, which isn’t really getting off the ground.
How long will Stewart still stick with the desire to bring Geertruida in now that the important month of August is steadily advancing? Long, is probably the answer, because PSV doesn’t give up quickly when there is interest in a player. Still, it appears all but certain that the club’s management will have to switch to action in the short term.
And so suddenly, out of nowhere, the name of Ajax player Youri Baas comes up. “Baas to PSV, that would genuinely not be a crazy idea at all,” it sounds on Wednesday evening at Voetbalpraat on ESPN.
Anco Jansen and Marciano Vink see plenty of potential in a transfer of Youri Baas to PSV. Both analysts don’t understand why the Ajax defender is no longer in the picture in Amsterdam when it comes to a starting spot. Vink and Jansen do see a transfer to PSV happening. According to Jansen, Baas fits in excellently with Peter Bosz and his style of play.

"What I am really wondering is what is going to happen to Baas," Vink says during Voetbalpraat on ESPN as the Ajax squad is discussed. "It can’t be that Baas, who over the past two or three seasons has been one of the few who stayed standing and who has constantly been on hand to keep Ajax going in a playing sense from the back, is now being sidelined. I would find that very strange."
ESPN presenter Jan Joost van Gangelen then says that an internal transfer for the Ajax defender to PSV could definitely be an option. "Youri Baas to PSV, I really wouldn’t think that’s a crazy idea", he concludes. "That wouldn’t be strange", Vink and Jansen say.
"Last year, during some periods, he was really the only stronghold. While everyone else was falling apart, he stayed standing. At one point, he was the captain." A move to Eindhoven is something the former midfielder is very keen on, also because of a possible collaboration with Bosz. "I would do it a hundred percent. He fits Peter Bosz perfectly too," says the convinced Jansen.

Eens. Als hij echt past bij Bosz, dan is dit een upgrade voor de defensie. Maar ajax verkoopt niet graag "aan een concurrent", dus ik ben benieuwd naar de prijs..
Nahh, i dont get the hype that fast. Baas might be a stronghold, but can he play Bosz ball consistently under PSV intensity? If Stewart doesnt move quick, we might end up with another "good but not perfect" defender deal. 🤡
"Hij was aanvoerder op een gegeven moment" is precies the kind of profile we lack, doesnt matter if its Ajax or PSV. Tbh the only risk is he gets stuck in a rotation role again, and PSV cant afford mid-transfer gambles in August.
If ESPN is saying Baas fits Bosz then i believe it. We have been screaming for CB depth and an "aanvoerder" type who can handle pressure would be huge. Still, i want to know if he is actually ready to be a starter week in, week out.
