Erik ten Hag points to PSV: “We did want him.”
1 min readPSV decided this transfer summer to say goodbye to striker Jesper Uneken. Uneken played last season already on loan for provincial rival RKC Waalwijk and returned to PSV this summer before then departing for IK Sirius in Sweden.
Still, the former PSV player could also have made a domestic transfer. FC Twente had, in fact, the striker in mind. 'We did want him,' Ten Hag admits openly.
That is what technical director Erik ten Hag of the Tukkers lets it be known in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad. ''A shame, in my view'', Ten Hag says about the fact that Uneken has left for abroad.
The striker made his debut on 6 April 2024 in the home match against AZ (5-1) during matchday 29. Uneken enjoyed a dream debut, as he managed to ensure the final 5-1 score at the start of stoppage time.

In the end, the club from Enschede did not follow through and, in addition, Ten Hag also expresses his surprise that no other Eredivisie club has come forward for Uneken. ''We thought of Twente for Uneken, but at that point we still did not have clarity about the arrival of Weghorst. And we already had plans with Lucas Vennegoor. It really surprises me that no other Eredivisie club has signed Uneken'', the TD said.

That comment about trusting the youth is w for the future, but idk if we can afford mistakes in the big matches. Give the youngster minutes, sure... just not at the cost of basic defensive cover. 🔥⚽
"PSV Inside" really made it sound like the system is perfect... but no system is perfect when the fullback is getting caught inside. This is where opponents will hurt us.
"Inside PSV" talk or not, i just need the final ball to be cleaner. When X gets into the half-space, it should be a pass early, not a dribble that kills the tempo. Otherwise it turns into possession with no bite, bruh 💀
If the piece is hinting that we are more intense pressing without the ball, then I actually get it. But we have to avoid being open on the counter, especially with our fullbacks jumping forward. Tweaks like holding one player deeper could make this a real upgrade 🔥
I like the intensity in PSV's pressing, but the spacing behind the first line worries me. If they play that high, they better be winning the second ball every time or it turns into damage control.
No way we keep playing the same buildup if the article is right about PSV forcing everything through the inside channels. That midfield space between the 6 and 8 will get punished fast. I want more width and quicker switches, not slower dribbling into a wall 😅
If PSV are serious about the title, we need more end product from the wide areas. Tbh the build-up is nice, but too many chances die in the final third.
