De Telegraaf expects a record transfer fee for PSV: 'Not 60 but 80 million euros'

He has made a very strong impression. For weeks now, actually. Ruben van Bommel is the topic of conversation everywhere.

English media, German media but also in Southern Europe sing his name around. Ruben van Bommel has returned from his severe knee injury in an unprecedentedly strong way and therefore knows how to surprise friend and foe with his play, speed and power. 'He leaves PSV for 80 million euros, he becomes even better than Gakpo,' it is said at De Telegraaf without any doubt whenever the name of Ruben van Bommel is mentioned in the Podcast Kick-Off.

Van Bommel is set to achieve the next record sale of PSV, if it’s up to Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij. The journalist is quite impressed by the development of the PSV player, who embellished his debut for Oranje with a beautiful assist to Cody Gakpo, who has since also moved on to the world stage.

So it’s going pretty hard for Van Bommel, who was only allowed to come on seven minutes from time against Germany. Immediately he was important with an excellent but above all artistic cross to Cody Gakpo, who fired in the equalizer. "Fantastic. If you come into it in the 83rd minute and have that much impact. I think we’ve discussed it before. He’s really the kind of player who makes you think: wow", says Verweij in the podcast Kick-off of De Telegraaf.

The statements in the Podcast were about the amount of any transfer fee for the son of Mark van Bommel, who could well go on to reach the European top. The journalist expects Van Bommel to bring in a megasum for PSV. "60 million euros is far too little; that’s 80 million that will leave PSV, I think. I think he has more conditions than Gakpo. I think he’s going to become even better than Gakpo."

Valentijn Driessen is also enthusiastic but hits the brakes. Driessen does not expect a starting position with the Netherlands team in the upcoming matches. "I don't think so. I don't think Gakpo would like to play as a striker or on the right side. Then you would make the attacking leader of the past four years subordinate to a boy who has just started out", said Valentijn Driessen, adding that Van Bommel was not visible against FC Twente and should not be praised too much.
