After a conversation with Dick Schreuder: "I think he’s coming to PSV."

PSV urgently needs defensive reinforcements. After two heavy setbacks against Villarreal and AZ, it's time for reinforcements, but they are still not forthcoming. That's the simple conclusion after the month of July and the first days of August, with two serious defeats.

The number three of the past La Liga season showed that PSV, in defensive terms, was particularly vulnerable, before then conceding four goals to AZ. The Spaniards certainly created fourteen open chances and AZ also had the freedom to shoot at goal at random. Veerman was sent off early with a red but, despite that, a team like PSV should be able to perform better.

Yarek Gasiorowski and Ryan Flamingo formed the heart of the defense. That duo proved just as vulnerable as Noah Fernandez, who played a poor match as left-back against both AZ and Villarreal. In that last position, Bosz can still shift things around with captain Mauro Júnior, but in central defense there are hardly any alternatives. Especially not now that Jerdy Schouten has been ruled out for a long time.

The midfield also has an urgent need for reinforcements, regardless of the fact that it is genuinely time for Joey Veerman to leave. In everything, the midfielder gives off that he wants to go, and a new PSV season therefore seems like a guarantee of disappointment. Veerman does not look focused and, in fact, neither does he appear motivated. The outrageous red card against AZ is an exemplary example of that.

Technical director Earnest Stewart is on the hook, because a quality boost in the defence is said to be necessary, but that also applies to the midfield. A player like Kodai Sano suddenly seems more than welcome now that the midfield of Peter Bosz's team is sluggish and limp.

Analyst and PSV supporter Tommie van der Leegte has confidence in Sano’s arrival at PSV. Van der Leegte has a good relationship with Schreuder and has already spoken highly on more than one occasion about the coach at NEC, whom he would like to see as Peter Bosz’s successor at PSV. Van der Leegte spoke with Schreuder last weekend and, as it turns out, the name of Sano came up in the conversation as well. In the Rood Wit Podcast, Van der Leegte said that he nevertheless has good hopes that Sano will come to PSV. 'I think he’s coming to PSV,' Van der Leegte smiled after several questions about Sano.
