Ziggo Sport on PSV player: “He calls his key guys”
1 min readLast week, Peter Bosz was surprised that Guus Til had not been called by national team coach Xavi Hernandez. Now Til is still included in the Oranje squad.
''For him personally, that is terribly unfortunate. He didn’t even get a phone call. That is quite remarkable, because he was there at the World Cup. Guus had to find out through the media that he was not in the squad'', Bosz said Friday afternoon during the press conference ahead of FC Twente - PSV.
Then Xavi responded Monday morning during the press conference in Zeist ahead of the first matches of Oranje in the Nations League. ''I respect all opinions. Journalists and coaches will always miss players. But we all want the best for the national team. Til is available now,'' said the Spaniard.
The amazement of Bosz about Til not being called by the national team coach leads to confusion for former PSV player Wim Kieft. Kieft lets us know about this on Monday evening in the program Rondo on Ziggo Sport.

In addition, the former striker also points to the fact that the PSV player barely played at the World Cup in North America last summer. ''Come on, you wouldn't call Guus Til. He played almost no minutes at the World Cup; he doesn't know that lad. He can't possibly start calling everyone. He calls his most important guys,'' Kieft begins.
Former striker Eljero Elia has a different opinion. ''I find it strange that he didn't call Til at first. What he did with Memphis Depay I think is great. It’s also a bit of interaction. Say you do end up needing him, then it’s nice if you’ve spoken with each other once,'' Elia says.
Subsequently, Kieft reacts to Elia, after which the former PSV player puts a story from his time as a professional footballer on the table. ''I think Guus Til is the one for everyone. I find Memphis Depay and Virgil van Dijk something else. I was called once and then I didn’t go to the World Cup in ’94. Back then I’d been hanging around for about ten years and I called Dick Advocaat. But if you weren’t selected, you really weren’t always called'', said the former striker.
