World Cup substitute active in a practice match ahead of the season opener
1 min readPSV experienced a painful evening at home on Sunday against AZ in the clash for the Johan Cruijff Shield. After an early red card for Joey Veerman, AZ went on from a 0-1 half-time lead in the second half to eventually run out to 0-4, and as a result the Johan Cruijff Shield went to Alkmaar.
One day after the match against the Alkmaarders, PSV played a friendly. It is not exactly known against which club, but it is known that World Cup qualifier Sergino Dest was active for PSV in this game.
That PSV watcher Rik Elfrink from the Eindhovens Dagblad, reports on X. During the match with AZ, Dest was still missing from the match squad.
''Yesterday was still too early. The build-up to Saturday has started'', Elfrink writes on X.
Despite a departure clause in his contract, the American is still employed by PSV. In recent months, Bayer 04 Leverkusen is said to have shown interest in Dest, who before the World Cup indicated he wanted to take a step abroad.

I swear die transfer-dreiging blijft hangen, vertrekclausule of niet. Als Leverkusen echt kijkt en hij wil naar het buitenland voor het WK, dan is dit soort "te vroeg" momentjes wel spannend voor de competitie-start. 👀⚽
Dest terugspelen als oefenduel-boost is nice, maar 0-4 tegen AZ is gewoon echt pijnlijk. Als hij fit is, moet PSV die opbouw meteen vertalen naar duels winnen en minder weggeven na een rode kaart. 🔥
"Gisteren was nog te vroeg. Opbouw naar zaterdag is begonnen." snap ik wel, maar tbh ik had hem gister liever meteen gezien. Benieuwd of die opbouw effectief gaat zijn of dat we weer gaten achterin krijgen.
