Veerman firmly: “That makes no sense at all.”
1 min readFormer PSV player Joey Veerman is no longer looking back at the clash with former national team coach Ronald Koeman. Veerman says this to ESPN.
The midfielder has been called up to the Dutch national team again by head coach Xavi Hernandez after two years out of action. After the Euro 2024, the then former PSV player no longer featured for Oranje under Koeman.
For Veerman, that is now a closed chapter. ''I made a great transfer, and this is a new beginning with the Netherlands national team for me, so why would I look back on that? That makes no sense at all'', the midfielder tells ESPN in front of the camera.
Last month Veerman left PSV for Borussia Dortmund. ''It has been great for me that after five beautiful years at PSV I can now play at Dortmund. I am very happy about it. I went over there with my family, I’m training well and I’m in the starting lineup so far. So I’m a happy man,'' says the former PSV player.

Veerman also sees many differences between the Eredivisie and the Bundesliga. ''I adjusted pretty quickly. The training is different, a different intensity. You do notice it: in the German league it is indeed different, yes. Last week we played at home against Paderborn. That’s different from playing at home with PSV against the lower teams in the Eredivisie. That is a big difference. It’s mostly in the content of the players. The way they press, one-on-one, just full throttle. That is different. I don’t know if it also asks different things of me. I’m still trying to find my spaces. As a midfielder, you have to have your measurements in order to find the balls. I think that’s going to go well,'' the midfielder emphasizes.
Then the former PSV player goes into the new national team coach. ''He tries to talk a lot about the style of play. A lot of it is about possession. That sounds good at least. We’ve now had two meetings and it’s just been a lot about the football side. That’s good, I think,'' says Veerman.
In the end, the former PSV player talks about his chances in Oranje. ''I have no idea. I haven't spoken to him yet. I play in Germany with two number sixes. That's my position. I hope I can also get a few minutes here in that position,'' said the midfielder.
