Van der Gijp predicts a bright future for PSV player: 'Of course'
1 min readRuben van Bommel has everything it takes to become a footballer who will belong to the absolute world elite. That’s what former PSV player and current analyst René van der Gijp believes.
Van der Gijp says this on Monday evening in the show Vandaag Inside on SBS6. The equalizer by Van Bommel against FC Utrecht was discussed there.
''That was a super difficult ball, huh?'', says the Dordrecht analyst, after which Gijp brings up his earlier prediction about the departed Ismael Saibari. ''I've once said about Ismael Saibari: he is the only one in the Dutch league who can reach the European top. That's what I think of him as well.''
Then Van der Gijp continues his praise. ''The first thing you need to reach the top is power and length. Physically. He has that. Saibari too'', continues the former footballer.

After that, Van Bommel is compared with Ro-Zangelo Daal of AZ. ''That left winger of AZ, for example, that's a good player. But how good do you have to be to be able to compete at the top with that height and strength? That can hardly be done'', thinks Van der Gijp.
Van Bommel, on the other hand, could well make it in England, according to the former PSV player. ''Of course. He can be better than Cody Gakpo. And they wanted to offer them still a hundred million euros for that just an hour ago'', said the analyst, referring to the fact that the transfer of Gakpo to Manchester City did not go through.
