Valentijn Driessen praises PSV player: "I thought he started out pretty well"
1 min readFor many football fans, it might be a big surprise, but Valentijn Driessen from De Telegraaf turns out to be able to be positive too, after all. Driessen is, in fact, criticized by many people for his alleged bitterness and negativity.
After Ajax - PSV (1-3), the journalist was surprisingly positive about PSV, and especially about Lutsharel Geertruida. Geertruida made his starting debut last Saturday and was responsible for the 1-2.
After more than 75 minutes, the defender was replaced by Ryan Flamingo, but despite that, PSV won 1-3 in Amsterdam. After the match, Driessen gave his analysis for the camera of De Telegraaf and also pointed to the PSV loanee.
''I thought he started pretty well and he also made that goal. He had very little trouble with Tolu. After that, Armando Obispo came on to play against Tolu and she had a lot more trouble with it. That also resulted in a goal'', the reporter says.
Yet Driessen also adds a critical note despite the conclusion that the defender played a good match. ''Then you still have to say that Geertruida is easily keeping pace at this level. Only physically and in terms of content it doesn't quite carry the day yet. He hasn't played for a long time and then you immediately end up in the defense of PSV, in a game like that. That is quite difficult, but he did just fine'', says the reporter.
The journalist also thinks that Geertruida played a role in the spotlight together with Ruben van Bommel and Guus Til under national team coach Xavi Hernandez, who was seated in the stands last Saturday. ''And I think that if we had asked Xavi after the match about the potential internationals, then Geertruida would be on that list. Along with Ruben van Bommel and Guus Til. And at Ajax, no one, because the Dutch didn’t stand out'', Driessen said.

Die opmerking over Xavi Hernandez is weer typisch Driessen, maar ik geloof er wel in. Geertruida, Van Bommel en Guus Til samen in de picture lijkt me logisch. En lol, tegen Ajax zo'n duel winnen en dan nog downplayen... bij Ajax blonken ze inderdaad niet echt uit.
"Hij heeft een hele tijd niet gespeeld en dan kom je gelijk in de verdediging..." ja precies, dat is waarom ik trots ben. Geertruida loopt niet meteen als een veteraan maar hij maakt slimme keuzes en dat zag je.
Na al die Driessen-haat is dit wel lekker lezen, maar ik blijf kritisch. Je kan niet alleen "makkelijk meeloopt" zeggen als fysiek en inhoudelijk nog niet helemaal klopt. Xavi die hem ziet, oké... maar PSV moet hem ook structureel laten spelen, anders blijf je gokken in wedstrijden zoals Ajax-PSV 💯
Tbh die kritiek over fysiek en inhoudelijk snap ik wel. Op dit niveau moet je direct staan, zeker na zo weinig wedstrijdritme. Maar w - hij hield het gedisciplineerd tegen Tolu, daarna werd het ook nog zwaarder met Obispo.

Can confirm: Geertruida meeloopt op niveau, maar hij moet nog wat van dat fysiek in de benen krijgen. Flamingo erin na 75 min was slim, en die uitleg dat Obispo het lastiger had zegt genoeg 👀
"Ik vond dat hij best goed begon en hij maakte ook die goal." Eens, dat duel met Tolu zag er al volwassen uit. Wel jammer dat de fysieke stap op dit niveau nog even blijft hangen, maar voor z'n eerste basiswedstrijd is dit top.
Geertruida was inderdaad lekker bezig, die 1-2 en die goal erbij. "Hij vond dat hij best goed begon" klopt gewoon, al vond ik 'm soms nog net te licht fysiek.
Geertruida begon inderdaad lekker, die goal was echt een statement. Maar die nuance over fysiek klopt ook, Ajax zette hem meteen onder druk.
