Utrecht’s razor-sharp humiliation at the expense of PSV: “I’m ashamed too”
1 min readDespite an early 1-0 lead, FC Utrecht at home on Sunday afternoon failed to live up to expectations against PSV. Before halftime, Peter Bosz’s side turned the deficit into a 1-2 lead through goals by Ruben van Bommel and Guus Til.
Eventually it took until a quarter of an hour for time before Bosz's team increased the score. Captain Mauro Junior was on target from a direct free kick for the 1-3 and with that the decision in the match.
With goals by Sven Mijnans, who earlier shot a penalty against the post, Guus Til and Sergino Dest, PSV eventually ran out 1-6 winners. As a result, Anthony Correia’s side are only one point after four matches and afterwards the coach was also candid about his team’s performance.
Captain Dani de Wit said he was ashamed of this beating and Correia shares those words. ''I'm ashamed too. Especially the last twenty minutes, PSV has humiliated us. I think he used the right choice of words,'' the coach says to the camera of ESPN.
After that, the coach goes deeper into the duel in the Domstad. ''We start the match aggressively and we do that well. Also a nice goal by Van Bommel. Until then, PSV plays nice football as always, but we hold it pretty well and we give away the net before half-time. That was a mental knockout blow. We start the second half fairly well. Vesterlund got injured and then we didn’t just drop a little, but completely'', says Correia.
The brand-new trainer of FC Utrecht also talks about hard lessons that need to be learned. ''This question has been asked of me more than once and there is always pressure. I said the same to the group: I’m ashamed, but tomorrow is a new day. It is still far from perfect and then we have to do better. Letting it completely run out at the end is a part of mental resilience that was not present at that moment. We need to talk about that. These are hard lessons'', the coach said.

PSV looked vulnerable on set pieces in the article, and it is the one thing you cant ignore. Against stronger teams, one bad marking moment turns into a draw that feels like a loss.

Im still not fully convinced about the winger role. When they tuck inside, the spacing for the overlap feels off, and then Luuk-style runs arent getting the service. Need more rotation, tbh.
"Tactical clarity" sounds good, but tbh the lineup only makes sense if the double pivot stays close. If one of them steps out, the back line starts running for their lives.

Lmao, the "game-management" talk is always nice, but can we please see more control when we're up? PSV tend to get sloppy for 10 minutes and then act surprised when the other team scores.

Ziyech and Dumfries switching positions is kinda fire, but i still want the fullback to hold width more often. When they drift in too early, the midfield gets crowded and we lose that second ball.
If PSV are pressing like they were in the article, Simons has to be more disciplined defensively. He is so creative that he can't keep leaving space for counters, otherwise it gets punished.
That midfield balance is exactly why i buy into this plan. If Veerman gets the half-space touches early, PSV look 10x more dangerous in transition. ⚽🚀
