Unwavering praise after the incident: “You can just see it in everything he does.”

Last Thursday, Ruben van Bommel made an excellent debut for Oranje. Van Bommel provided an assist for Cody Gakpo.

With that, Orange prevented a defeat against Germany (1-1) in stoppage time on the debut of the new national coach Xavi Hernandez. Last Sunday, Van Bommel was allowed to come on again after Cody Gakpo had to withdraw early in the first half with an injury.

Afterwards, NOS analysts Rafael van der Vaart and Theo Janssen are full of praise for the PSV player. ''That kid has pace, I mean, he can get past people without making an action. That kid just puts the ball past him and starts running. You just see it in everything he does; he’s so quick and powerful'', Janssen says after the match in the NOS studio.

Subsequently, the former midfielder is full of praise for the winger’s rehabilitation after his severe injury from last year. “You can see that he invested a year in his body after his injury. So he has gained a lot of strength from it, and he is now benefiting from that,” Janssen continues.

Coach Van der Vaart is also lyrical and sees good areas for improvement in the newly minted international. ''In a good way, because you can also lose your speed. He has always been fast, but now he has also just become powerful in the right way,'' the former international says.

The way of playing also earns Van Bommel a lot of compliments. ''What I especially see in those pictures just now is that it flows smoothly. Some balls don't quite make it, but the idea is there. It's all one touch, two touches. I don't see him dribbling and you think: shoot once in a while'', Van der Vaart said.

Still a bit worried about whether he can keep that speed over 90 minutes. But Van der Vaart saying he's now "op de juiste manier krachtig" gives me confidence, that combo is what makes him dangerous 👀

Tbh I like the revalidation point from Janssen, you can see the added strength in his duels. Also that "vloeiend loopt", it looks like he plays one-two touches instead of trying to solo himself.

That quote is so true, Van Bommel just looks calm and direct, like he can beat the man without even "doing" a dribble. Als Gakpo uitvalt dan moet er iemand het tempo pakken, en hij doet dat meteen 🔥
