Twente forward tipped Stewart: “This boy has something.”

1 min read

Last Sunday, PSV suffered their first competitive defeat of the season away at FC Twente (3-2). Despite leading 1-2, things went wrong for Peter Bosz’s side in the final quarter of an hour.

Daouda Weidmann crowned himself a match winner in the De Grolsch Veste. In the 83rd minute, Weidmann managed to make a long solo after a cleared free kick from PSV and shot the ball behind goalkeeper Matej Kovar, allowing John van den Brom’s team to leave the field as the winners.

Clubwatcher Leon ten Voorde from the regional newspaper Tubantia also thinks that the midfielder could easily have put himself in the spotlight at PSV. Ten Voorde says this in the podcast De Ballen Verstand of that same outlet.

''It is very impressive how he keeps his balance and manages to make that goal. That was great class. I think Earnest Stewart, PSV's technical director, has driven back to Eindhoven, opened the laptop, and put Weidmann on the list. This boy has something. A technical gift and a dribble, something you don't see much on Dutch pitches. That sounds high-flown, but this boy has something special'', the journalist says.

After that, the reporter continues his praise. ''I think it has been a long time since we at FC Twente have seen such a midfielder. He is so comfortable on the ball, has a burst of acceleration, can win duels, and he sets the tempo in the match. He is heading for a very fine career, because this is really a very good player,'' said Ten Voorde.

I get the hype tbh. The article says he can determine the tempo, keep balance and has acceleration, that is basically a midfielder with a plan. But PSV also needs depth immediately, so i wanna know how Stewart sees the fit with our current midfielders and whether Weidmann is more 6 or more 8.

Eens dat hij balans bewaart en tempo bepaalt, maar PSV moet ook gewoon die vrije trap beter wegwerken. Kovar is daar te laat, tbh. 👀

"Deze jongen heeft iets" bruh... if Bosz didnt lose it at the end, this wouldnt even be a discussion. Still, Weidmann looks like a proper ball-carrier, comfortable under pressure and actually wins duels. 👀

3-2 en dan die 83e minuut... echt balen. Maar als Weidmann dat soort solo's maakt, snap ik wel waarom Stewart hem zou 'terugrijden naar Eindhoven'.

That solo in the 83rd minute was pure killer instinct, but idk if we should be too happy about praising it. Stewart backing Weidmann would be exciting though, that kind of balance and tempo control is exactly what we keep missing sometimes. 🔥
