Topfitte Dest again gets success with PSV, but after “fewer experiences” doesn’t want to say anything about Xavi Hernandez

The news of the appointment of Xavi Hernandez as head coach of the Netherlands national team has also reached Sergiño Dest. Dest played at FC Barcelona under Xavi before the American, after a loan spell at AC Milan, moved to PSV in the summer of 2023.

In a conversation with ESPN, the PSV player reacts to the appointment of the Spanish coach. ''Can you tell us once what kind of coach Xavi is? What can we expect from that?'', the right-back is asked. It is generally known that Dest can’t share very good experiences with the new national team coach of the Netherlands. During his time as a player for FC Barcelona, Dest clashed with Xavi, who hardly let him play and allowed him to leave for AC Milan.

The defender then lets out a deep sigh and, in addition, has to think it through a great deal. “I think you should ask Frenkie (de Jong),” Dest replies, laughing, before subtly and diplomatically pointing to former teammate Frenkie de Jong.

''Ask Frenkie,''' continues the American, after which the interviewer responds: ''He knows better?'', as Dest says, who managed to join PSV again this summer, with the knowledge that an outgoing transfer to a top competition has to be put off for a year. Dest is once again fully motivated to help deliver a successful season at PSV.

Then Dest responds: ''Yes, he knows better. It has been a long time for me'', after which the interviewer then asks: ''You don't like to look back on it? What are your memories of him?'', after which the PSV player responds: ''I don't have that many memories of him. Ask Frenkie. Ask Frenkie'', closing the segment with a laugh and a wink, because the very fit-up PSV player keeps it positive and, in general, is not seen as a person who likes to damage other people.
