This PSV player went to the Ajax changing room after the match: “There were also emotions there.”

1 min read

A fierce moment in the Johan Cruijff Arena, where Ruben van Bommel was hit with the anger of Ajax-loving Netherlands, but at the same time received the necessary support from the PSV supporters.

Age-old football discussions flared up on Saturday evening after the heavy foul by Van Bommel on Bouwman. Immediately, Mark van Bommel’s son responded to what happened on Ajax’s half, looking guilty. Yes, a red card could have been given. Yes, it was thoughtless and rather clumsy, what Van Bommel showed in the duel with Ajax’s defender.

Technical director Stewart of PSV did not want to respond right away Sunday morning to the question of whether he thought it was a red card for Ruben van Bommel. 'It isn't important what I think of it; the referee and VAR have assessed it,' Stewart said about the much-discussed moment.

In turn, Ruben van Bommel walked after the match into the dressing room of the players from Amsterdam. This is what technical director Earnest Stewart says in Goedemorgen Eredivisie on ESPN. "After the game, he walked into Ajax's dressing room to offer his apologies. There were also emotions there", said the technical boss of PSV.

We don't have any proof for it, but we can just imagine that Davy Klaassen, who often seeks sensation and unrest, was involved in that as well. Klaassen isn't averse to troublemaking, irritation, and stirring things up; we saw that once again during Ajax - PSV. Continuing on and raising your hands to the air after a foul by the Amsterdam midfielder is also something that is synonymous with Klaassen's behavior.

Stewart sat in the stands and at EPSN was asked what he does at one point around Van Bommel and Bouwman. "See if you have to look down to bring some calm, but that wasn't necessary", he begins at ESPN. "I think we should in any case stay off the pitch. We have to try to keep calm, because that is also an example for everyone and everything."

"I saw that a lot of people were trying to bring some peace. Of course it’s a loaded match, especially at the start of the season. Everyone is looking for the development of the teams. Everything comes into play. We have to stay off the field. A lot happens within the lines—that’s what the referees are for."
