1 min readThe transfer of Kodai Sano to PSV has gained momentum. Earlier, PSV pulled the plug on talks with NEC due to the asking price and now Sano is still going to PSV.
Mounir Boualin and Rik Elfrink reported on Tuesday afternoon that PSV had been eliminated with the Nijmegen side regarding the sale of the Japanese player. The midfielder therefore also did not play on behalf of NEC in the match with Olympiakos in the Champions League qualifying round.
Now Sano has arrived in Eindhoven to undergo a medical assessment by PSV. If the midfielder passes the medical examination, he will soon be allowed to call himself a PSV player and Sano will sign a contract until 2031.
That makes Sano the second Japanese player in the PSV kit. Earlier, Ritsu Doan was under contract with PSV between 2019 and 2022.
The Japanese player was an important figure last season for Nijmegen Eendracht Combinatie, who under the leadership of Dick Schreuder achieved their highest-ever placing in the Eredivisie with a third-place finish. Despite his key role in Nijmegen last season, Sano was not selected for Japan's World Cup squad.

"medische keuring" en dan contract tot 2031... Top, maar ik vraag me wel af waarom Japan hem niet selecteerde voor het WK. 👀 Als Schreuder hem zo liet knallen in Nijmegen, kan hij hier dezelfde rol krijgen?
"moet medisch gekeurd worden" en dan tekent hij tot 2031... ok, maar ik wil wel weten of dit meer een controlerend type wordt of meer een echte box-to-box. En die WK-selectie van Japan overslaan... dat is op z'n minst een klein vraagteken, imo.
Impressive if PSV really closed it after pulling out with NEC earlier. Not having Sano play for NEC vs Olympiakos in the qualifiers says a lot. Curious how Schreuder's system translates to PSV though, because 3rd with NEC is not a small thing.
PSV heeft NEC eerst laten zakken door de vraagprijs en nu toch doorgaan, tja typisch. Tbh als Sano tekent tot 2031 is dat een lange investering, dus ik verwacht meteen impact en niet alleen "toekomst".
🔥 Sano in Eindhoven voor de medische keuring, dit voelt echt als doorpakken. Als hij tekent tot 2031 kunnen we eindelijk wat lengte in het midden bouwen. Hopelijk is de vraagprijs niet alleen de reden geweest dat het ineens versnelt.
