Stewart open about the multimillion deal: “Little by little we figured out that he wanted to make that choice”
1 min readAfter long negotiations, last month PSV managed to bring Lutsharel Geertruida in. Geertruida is on loan from RB Leipzig.
In Rotterdam-Zuid, this rental transfer caused a great deal of anger and frustration among the Feyenoord supporters. On social media, the current PSV player received the necessary insults aimed at him.
Since his first-team debut against Ajax (1-3), the defender has actually been impossible to ignore from Peter Bosz’s starting lineup. In the series Here in the South of PSV Play, technical director Earnest Stewart looks back on the signing of Geertruida.
''At the start of the window it looked as though he might be allowed to be loaned out, but that quickly turned out not to be the case. Then it was probably quite a long process to get that arranged,'' Stewart tells the camera of PSV Play.

PSV had already shown interest in former Feyenoord player for the World Cup in North America, where Geertruida was active with Oranje. The defender was last year still loaned by RB Leipzig to Sunderland AFC.
Despite this, the English decided not to permanently tie up Geertruida, which put PSV on the radar. “Before the World Cup, we were already in talks with Lutsharel about PSV, and along the way we found out that he wanted to make that choice. Then you enter into the process with RB Leipzig, who initially were very keen for him to still be sold. But in the end, fortunately, it worked out,” said Stewart.
