Spanish media impressed but point to Ajax over PSV

1 min read

Ajax would be in shape, reported several Dutch media after the Ajax - Willem II match; a match with a normal outcome.

In Amsterdam, there is currently an Amsterdam head coach going around who was relegated last season, and that means that the performances of the Amsterdammers are being followed in Spain more as well nowadays.

Míchel Sánchez lost with his Ajax against PSV and that was also not unnoticed in Spain. Mundo Deportivo is positive about the Spanish coach but at the same time rates PSV a little higher. The quality newspaper is nevertheless convinced that, under his leadership, the Amsterdam team are title contenders.

'Michel's team is already running at full speed. Some teams need time after the appointment of a new coach to achieve the expected results. Other teams only need a small push in the right direction. And then there are others, such as Michel's Ajax, which seems to have existed for an eternity, while in reality the employment is only a few months old. After some doubts, this Ajax under Michel is now backing into the title race in the Eredivisie,' the outlet said.

Mundo Deportivo continues: 'Even the defeat against PSV, a match in which Michel's men performed reasonably well, did not bring their average below the respectable three goals per game. That amounts to a goal every half hour.'

SPORT and Marca think that Ajax could make a move against PSV but doubt whether the Amsterdam side can strike in the title race with PSV.

Ajax still has a long way to go in the fight for the Eredivisie title. A very long way, in fact. And PSV, with the advantage that they are defending their title, promises to make it anything but easy for them. But as we saw in Girona, a team coached by Míchel, when the results go their way and they play well and are in form, can be virtually unbeatable.'

Yeah they look better, but one year they will fade, PSV won because we build momentum the whole season. Vamos, keep Ajax honest ⚽🔥

Tbh i like that they mention even the PSV loss did not kill their average. Still, the title fight comes down to consistency, and PSV defending the title should not be underestimated. Míchel can be a threat, but we have to make sure it stays just that, a threat.

Also that stat in the article, Ajax averaging around 3 goals per match, sounds good until you face a defence that punishes transitions.

Eens.

Spanish media saying Ajax is already running on full speed, fair play. But PSV still feels like the real threat, especially if we keep that tempo and control in tight games.
