Sergiño Dest, trained by Ajax, has meanwhile become a real PSV player and warns Ajax.

His roots lie in Amsterdam. At least, in Almere. If you grow up in Almere, of course there is a good chance you’ll play for Ajax, and so it happened. Sergiño Dest played for Ajax from 2012 to 2018 and broke through there. Soon enough, he left the Amsterdam club for FC Barcelona.

Every player would naturally not refuse such a step, but everything went differently after that for the American international. AC Milan and subsequently PSV were affected by the next steps. In the meantime, Dest is no longer to be ignored in the lineup of Peter Bosz's team. Dest has spoken out several times about his time at PSV and also felt this summer that leaving was not a necessity.

Sergino Dest 'didn't really need to leave PSV'. That's what the right-back says in conversation with De Telegraaf. The defender is doing well in his place at PSV and therefore values the warmth particularly highly.

"I think nobody would have expected that based on my first season. But sometimes things happen in life that you can’t do anything about, and then you have to switch gears. In my case, that was the cruciate ligament injury. Then you sometimes need a bit more time to get back to your old level", he points to his now fourth year at PSV.

Does Ajax - PSV come too early? In Amsterdam they think so, in Eindhoven it doesn’t really. "It would be nicer if it came a little later. But it’s also simply a nice test for us. And that certainly applies to Ajax as well. They’ve brought in a lot of new players. That can be positive, but also less positive. The players may still need to get to know each other a bit. In any case, it won’t be an easy match for us."

It’s time again for a victory in Amsterdam, Dest also realizes. "They’ve had some worse periods, but even then they remain a difficult team to play against. Even in the worse periods you could see that they had quality. It’s always difficult for us to win there. It’s about time we do that again."

"I think we really have a consistent team again. We definitely can't say it's going to be a walk in the park to become champions for the fourth time, because the competition is also getting stronger. But we can say that we've stayed at a stable level and that we’re not just going to hand it over. We will also certainly be in the race this season", Dest said about PSV in 2026-2027.

Johan Bakayoko on one side, and then suddenly we have width AND threat. 👀 Give him the ball facing forward and the whole team looks different. Hakim Ziyech-style creativity would be nice too, but for now this is peak PSV football. ⚽🔥

🔥🔥🔥 That chance at the end was pure PSV. Keep running at them, dont hesitate in the box. If we start finishing like that every week, we are serious title contenders.

"PSV control the tempo through the midfield" is true... but only when the 6 stays calm. Once they invite pressure with a blind pass, you can feel the risk right away. I want more direct balls to the 10 before the opponent is set.

tbh i just want to see that second striker stop drifting so wide. it kills the overlap lanes for the wingers, and then the ball just gets recycled too slow. Do we go 4-3-3 or commit to the 4-2-3-1 already? 👀

"tactical clarity"?? In my view it looked messy for 15-20 minutes. 🤡 Once the tempo dropped, we were struggling to break the press and the build-up got slow.

Im still not convinced by the full-back balance. When they step up too early, the central midfield has to cover twice, and you can see the space behind. tbh we need one clear holding midfielder role, not vibes.

If PSV start pressing higher again, i actually trust our shape more. But Martinez and Tillman need to be braver between the lines, otherwise we just invite counters. Still, that attacking tempo was kinda fire.

If this was really about pushing the fullbacks higher, we need more discipline in the rest defense. Otherwise it turns into chaos the moment the press is beaten. Still, the attacking build-up looked promising.
