Ruud Gullit points to the ideal assistant for Xavi, who could raise questions in Eindhoven: “Then you’d make a lot of impact on the opposition.”
1 min readFormer PSV player Ruud Gullit would welcome it if Patrick Kluivert becomes the new assistant coach to Xavi Hernandez with the Netherlands national team. Gullit tells De Telegraaf this in an interview.
The former captain of PSV, who became European champion in 1988 as captain of Oranje, sees Kluivert as an ideal figurehead for Dutch football. ''It would be great if Kluivert becomes an assistant'', Gullit begins about the former striker who was still active at PSV in 2006/2007.
''With these two on the bench, you would already make an enormous impression on the opposition. Kluivert has a lot of standing in the world, speaks many languages, and is a good ambassador for Dutch football. That would be a tremendous asset to have on the bench,'' the European champion of 1988 continues.
In addition, the former PSV player is full of praise for Kluivert’s career. ''Kluivert has achieved it himself with the Netherlands national team, Barcelona and Ajax, and that gives him a lot of credibility with the players he is on the field with'', Gullit says.

For the development of young players as well, according to the former footballer it would be ideal to place Kluivert alongside Xavi. ''He can help players in their development and have them perform at the highest level'', said the former PSV player about Patrick Kluivert, who is not loved by all PSV fans and Feyenoord fans. On social media, the former striker of FC Barcelona does not often receive compliments and praise-filled criticism.
