Ruben van Bommel speaks out
1 min readJust over a year ago, Ruben van Bommel suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury. Now the PSV player is in the Netherlands squad.
Van Bommel may be able to prepare for his debut with the Netherlands national team on Thursday evening. With that, the left winger would succeed father Mark van Bommel in the national team of the Netherlands after fourteen years.
In an interview with De Telegraaf, Ruben also speaks out about his fitness. The PSV player states that he feels fitter than ever.
Still, PSV’s attacker remains level-headed. “I just shouldn’t go floating,” Van Bommel says about the fact that the path to the very top was not the easiest for him.

Then the Orange international continues with his physical development. ''I have never put my dreams out of my head during my career, but when I went from PSV’s youth to MVV, I knew it would be different. And that it would be harder. First you play matches against Ajax, but then against Houten'', the winger continues.
Dad Mark played in the past for big clubs such as FC Barcelona, FC Bayern München and AC Milan. At the latter club, Ruben ran over the pitch as a little boy, and perhaps those experiences helped him not to be impressed too quickly.
''That could certainly play a role. It actually happens automatically. It’s just the way I am, and maybe it’s because of my past that it’s unconsciously a bit easier'', Van Bommel said.
