PSV winter signings speak out: “It’s becoming increasingly difficult to get involved between it all.”
1 min readLast season, Niek Schiks made his debut during PSV's away match against FC Groningen, since Matej Kovar and Nick Olij were injured. Schiks kept Peter Bosz's side in check on several occasions and thereby spared PSV from a larger deficit.
Afterwards, Schiks was named Star of the Match by PSV, and the goalkeeper was also visibly emotional after his debut. After the match, the stopper said to the camera of ESPN at the time that he was an emotional guy.
The goalkeeper also still has ambition to become PSV’s first-choice keeper. The on-loan goalkeeper says this in an interview with Sportnieuws.nl.
''My ultimate dream is to become the first-choice goalkeeper at PSV. But of course I’m also not naïve. If I have a really good season here and something beautiful comes along, then you should of course take that seriously. But for now, I see RKC primarily as a great stepping stone to PSV 1'', says Schiks.

Still, the closing act knows that it will not be an easy task to ever become the first-choice goalkeeper in Eindhoven. ''PSV are doing fantastically too right now. They play in the Champions League every year and have won the league three times in a row. It’s getting increasingly difficult to get in between them... But for now I mainly want a great year with RKC, and then I’ll see how it goes from there,'' the goalie said.

tbh the quote about UCL and threepeat league wins is exactly why young keepers struggle. PSV is peak in those seasons, no room for mistakes. Schiks better be ready for a real fight if he ever wants PSV 1. 🔥
"Mijn ultieme droom is om eerste keeper te worden bij PSV." bruh respect, maar PSV is not a charity project. Make yourself undeniable at RKC, show consistency under pressure, then we talk. 💯
The Groningen debut in that situation was massive, he kept PSV in it. Still, i think RKC needs to give him the reps and not just "nice between games" if he wants to be first-choice at Eindhoven. Otherwise its just hype again.
Niek Schiks really sounds like he respects the challenge. "Het wordt steeds lastiger om daartussen te komen" is spot on though, PSV is stacked every year. 👀
Eerlijk?
