PSV gets advice from Friesland
1 min readThe Dutch teams have not yet really started their European adventure. In fact, things are dramatic at the moment.
In the UEFA Champions League, PSV played to a 1-1 draw at home with Shakhtar Donetsk last Thursday, and Feyenoord went down in a painful 5-1 defeat a day earlier at FC Barcelona.
In addition, AZ also had a false start in the UEFA Europa League last Wednesday due to a 1-0 defeat away at Sunderland AFC. NEC played Thursday evening in Turin against Juventus in that same competition and suffered a painful 5-0 loss.
Ajax and FC Twente are active in the UEFA Europa Conference League, but they only come into action next week. In Friesland as well, at sc Heerenveen, the performances of the Dutch clubs that are active in Europe are closely monitored.

The Frisians are in eleventh place after six matches and still want to compete for play-offs for European football. In addition, technical director Ferry de Haan comes with advice for the participating clubs in Europe.
Thereby De Haan points to the place of the Netherlands on the coefficient list. ''We are virtually eighth. But there is a lot of competition from countries such as Greece and Turkey, but also from Serbia, Croatia and Norway. If as a football country we fall outside the top ten, even the national champion is not even directly seeded for a European final tournament. That can have disastrous consequences, both sportingly and financially. It is also not the case that the competing countries will structurally overperform. It goes in waves'', the technical director says in the podcast De Bestuurskamer.
Subsequently, the arrows are aimed at, among others, PSV. ''It is important that we keep control of the situation ourselves and play with as strong as possible lineups in European competitions, so that we can collect as many (coefficients) points as possible in Europe'', De Haan said.

AZ 1-0 in Sunderland, NEC 5-0 in Turijn, Feyenoord 5-1... allemaal tegelijk stumperig.
