PSV contenders firmly and wisely point at the “red” Ajax defender
1 min readAlso PSV prodigies Willy and René van de Kerkhof saw that PSV last Saturday for the first time since 6 November 2022 managed to win in Amsterdam. The team of Peter Bosz won 1-3 and afterwards it was mainly about Ruben van Bommel’s action against Aaron Bouwman.
That hasn’t escaped the attention of the brothers Van de Kerkhof either. Both gentlemen make their views clearly known in the Willy & René PSV Podcast from Omroep Brabant.
Willy thinks it’s fine that VAR did not intervene. ''Ruben is strong and can jump high, so I think he saw his opponent too late. He went a hundred percent for the ball. I thought it was a fair observation by VAR that it was not a red card. Why can’t you get in at a speed like that?'', Willy says.
René thinks differently and is of the opinion that also Ajax player Youri Baas deserved a red card during the flare-up that followed. ''I was waiting for him to give a red card. I would have found it reasonable if he had given a red card, but then Baas also would have had to have been sent off, if you tackle someone like that while they are lying on the ground. If he had been wise, he would have given Van Bommel and Baas red'', says René.

Finally, René wonders what would have happened if it had been the other way around. ''It is always the press that has the last word. Then I think: if it had been the other way around, would it have been like that too? I don’t think so. But I do agree that it would have been a fair red card, but he doesn’t give it. Then you’re lucky'', says the man from Helmond.
