PSV coach extends contract with PSV players until 2030
1 min readThe United States Soccer Federation has decided to extend the contract of national team coach Mauricio Pochettino through the 2030 World Cup. This means that the Argentine will serve as head coach until 2030 for current PSV player Ricardo Pepi and Sergino Dest.
In front of the American football association, the Argentine says he is pleased with the contract being granted. ''I believe in what we are building here. We have laid a strong foundation and I am convinced that we can take even bigger steps in the coming years. This group has the quality and the mentality to be successful'', said Pochettino.
At the last World Cup, Team USA under Pochettino made a good impression in the group stage matches against Paraguay (4-1) and Australia (2-0). The Americans ultimately finished as group winners and won in the second round against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The eighth finals ultimately became the end of the road for Pochettino and his team after a hopeless 1-4 defeat against Belgium. That match caused quite a stir in advance due to the lifting of the suspension of the American striker Folarin Balogun.
Balogun received a red card against Bosnia (2-0) and was initially set to be suspended for the match against the Belgians. In the end, FIFA decided to withdraw the red card, meaning the striker was allowed to take to the field after all.

4-1 tegen Paraguay en 2-0 tegen Australië is lekker, maar die 1-4 vs België is toch ook een reality check. Also, Balogun zijn rode kaart die ineens werd ingetrokken, sure, fr, maar tbh dat soort FIFA-beslissingen voelt PSV niet echt als voordeel. 💀
Eens, die selectie-mentaliteit klinkt goated, maar ik wil details zien: gaan ze dezelfde press instellen bij elke wedstrijd of aanpassen aan de tegenstander? Want 4-1 en 2-0 zijn lekker, maar één 1-4 kan alles omdraaien. 💯🔥
Als USA nu zelfs doorgaat tot WK 2030, dan is dat eigenlijk "PSV scouting meets project". Dest en Pepi krijgen automatisch een grotere rol, en dat kan PSV ook voordeel geven met hun ontwikkeling, mits ze niet overbelast raken. 👀
Folarin Balogun die rood teruggedraaid wordt ... FIFA circus weer 🤡. Ik snap dat het voor de selectie helpt, maar voor de coach en spelers is het natuurlijk ook puur geluk mee.
Pochettino hield het slim met de poule resultaten tegen Paraguay (4-1) en Australië (2-0). Maar die 1-4 tegen België blijft pijn doen, idk of ze mentaal hetzelfde niveau gaan halen als ze thuis straks weer vol druk staan.
"Ik geloof in wat we hier aan het opbouwen zijn." vind het wel mooi, maar tbh ik hoop dat het geen excuus wordt om tactisch te blijven hangen. Voor Pepi is consistentie key, anders is het weer gedoe met posities.

If this is true, ik ben vooral benieuwd hoe Pochetino gaat mixen met Pepi en Dest, want PSV moet ze beter laten groeien dan alleen "selectie-werk" doen. WK-setup kan top zijn, maar clubritme blijft king. 🔥
Ricardo Pepi en Sergino Dest dus tot 2030 onder Pochettino, dat is echt een langdurige structuur. Benieuwd of Pepi ook bij PSV meer minuten krijgt of blijft roteren, want US is duidelijk ambitieus.
