PSV are coming in, and Ajax fans—and Ajax player Julian Brandt—are already fearing the title clash against PSV
1 min readAjax and Feyenoord did not show their best side on Sunday. Both top clubs played at home and took a 2-0 lead, but after the final whistle the same score appeared on the scoreboard as after the match between PSV and Fortuna Sittard: 2-2.
Heerenveen actually held up easily against the overhyped Ajax, which has been praised to the skies in recent weeks especially by its own fans. Reality listens closely because spending many millions means nothing about the condition of the team, which is also physically in extremely poor shape when it comes to the 2026-2027 season. The Amsterdam side could no longer keep up with the pace in the second half and simply saw Heerenveen stay standing.
Feyenoord then. The Rotterdammers are not familiar with the arrogance of the Ajax fans, but nobody here took that into account. Feyenoord has already had a hard time with Go Ahead Eagles at home for two years, but a 2-2 draw after leading 2-0 is not something one had in mind beforehand. Last year it was ‘but’ 1-0 after a well-taken penalty deep into stoppage time, and a season earlier the Rotterdammers also had to dig deep for victory in their own De Kuip: 3-2. Now, once again, a disappointing result after a meagre but still deserved win at Het Kasteel.
Feyenoord played reasonably in their own Kuip Stadium, but after just over an hour of play, Go Ahead responded through Søren Tengstedt, and with ten minutes left to play, the Deventer team even made it 1-1. Substitute Stefán Ingi Sigurdarson was the scorer. Just before time, both teams struck the woodwork, but it stayed level at the Kuip. Disappointment everywhere, but the disappointment in Amsterdam seems to be leaving deeper wounds behind.

The supporters of the Amsterdam club, most of whom in recent weeks were already almost certain of a league title in spring 2027, can barely stomach the draw against Heerenveen. The draw against Heerenveen therefore makes many Ajax fans look back on the past seasons, when what they really wanted was to be heading toward a new league title.
Meanwhile, the competitive match between Ajax and PSV is approaching with rapid strides. Already in matchday five, both clubs face each other in the Eredivisie. Ajax fans have taken a serious blow to their confidence after the draw against Heerenveen, and this is especially noticeable on social media. Fans of the Amsterdam club take aim at Jordi Cruijff, at the coaching staff, and at part of the players following the 2-2 draw against Heerenveen.
At the same time, people fear the Eredivisie clash against PSV at the beginning of September. “PSV easily toward the championship, four in a row,” an Ajax fan reacts on X after the 2-2 draw against Heerenveen, adding that this Ajax has fewer qualities to offer than Peter Bosz’s team. “In this way, and with this squad, PSV is going to give us a defeat,” another one responds. “What a weak team—walkover PSV against us,” a next Ajax supporter fears.
Fresh Ajax player Julian Brandt, a familiar name of Peter Bosz, had already indicated a few weeks ago that it would be very difficult to stay ahead of PSV in the Eredivisie given Eindhoven’s policy in combination with Peter Bosz’s presence at PSV.
"I played under Peter Bosz at Bayer Leverkusen and I really appreciate him a lot; I love his style. Since then, we’ve had contact every year, also when Peter was in Lyon, for example. He is a very good person, but also a demanding coach who wants to become champion for the fourth time in a row with PSV. Early September, we’ll be up against each other; that will be great but also tough for Ajax", according to Brandt.

Bosz gaat ze pijn doen, mark my words ⚽🔥
