Praising reviews: 'I think he’s a better footballer than Guus Til'
1 min readThe 2025-2026 season was, among other things, a season of absolute recognition for Guus Til. Due to the injuries to Pléa, Pepi and Boadu, Guus Til was positioned in attack. Thanks in part to Til, PSV once again became champions of the Netherlands, with a large lead over the competition.
In the vanguard, Ismael Saibari complemented the iron-strong duo, but as is well known, that has come to an end. Saibari is now a contracted player of FC Bayern, but Guus Til will probably still just stay at PSV for another season. Til will deliver again this season too—so much is certain.
The interplay with Sven Mijnans is therefore interesting. How will both attacking midfielders relate to each other in the coming weeks and months? Tommie van der Leegte has good things to say about Sven Mijnans. The former PSV midfielder is of the opinion that more reinforcements still need to come to the midfield, but leaving that aside.
"I think he is a very good player. If PSV is completely complete and things are going well, then Mijnans can be easily incorporated", says Van der Leegte in De Rood Wit Podcast.
"The thing now is that it’s not fully working yet at PSV and then it’s difficult to immediately show what you can do", continues Van der Leegte. "You can see that he can just play football. You could see that too against Villarreal at certain moments. But it won’t be an easy start for him."
"I think Mijnans is a better footballer than Til. But those two could certainly play together. I just think that some reinforcements are still going to come to make it even stronger. At least I hope so. I think it’s still a bit too thin at the moment", said Tommie van der Leegte.

"Het zal geen makkelijke start worden voor hem" is bijna te braaf. Als Mijnans elke wedstrijd faalt, gaat iedereen weer naar Til terug roepen, omdat die vorig seizoen zo nuttig was. Ik hoop dat Mijnans en Mijnans+Saibari-gevoel samenkomt, anders blijft het wat vlak.
"Als PSV helemaal compleet is en het loopt" lol that is the key. Right now we need results, not perfect conditions. Imo Mijnans should start with a clear role so he can show what he did vs Villarreal, because a tough start without rhythm kills confidence 😅⚽
Eens, Mijnans kan voetballen, maar "makkelijk ingepast" doe je alleen als we al druk vooruit hebben. Als het niet loopt, dan is het inderdaad moeilijk om je waarde te tonen. 👀
Van der Leegte zegt dat het nog iets te mager is op het middenveld en daar ben ik het mee eens. Tegen Villarreal zag je kwaliteit, maar geen flow over 90 minuten. Geef ze een speler die tempo en creatie brengt en dan kan Mijnans knallen 🔥.
"Ik vind Mijnans een betere voetballer dan Til" is wel een hete take 😅. Ik snap het, maar Til had echt momenten dat hij het team recht trok toen blessures toesloegen. Als Mijnans start, moet hij ook die intensiteit brengen.
I disagree with the "better than Til" take, tbh. Til gave PSV goals and control, especially when he was forced as striker. Mijnans might be more complete technically, but Til fits the system under pressure way better. Still, pairing them could work if the midfield gets more bite.
The quote about it being "te mager" is what i feel too. Mijnans can play, no doubt, but the link-up has to click fast or it stays frustrating. Also, if Saibari is gone and injuries hit, PSV should strengthen midfield depth asap, not wait.
Mijnans die meteen ingepast kan worden als PSV loopt klinkt logisch, maar we weten ook dat dat "nu nog niet loopt" vaak pijn doet. Tbh liever snelle automatismen dan experimenten in de spits-vakken.
"Ik vind Mijnans een betere voetballer dan Til" en eerlijk, i snap de gedachte. Mijnans oogt voetballend slimmer, maar Til heeft die scorende/energie-dutjes in de spits. Als PSV nog niet loopt, dan voelt Mijnans vermogen nu half gevangen.
