Praise for newcomer PSV: “Of course, he’s a guy with experience.”

1 min read

PSV won Saturday evening 1-3 away at Ajax and with that handed the Amsterdammers the first setback under Peter Bosz. At halftime, PSV led 1-2 thanks to goals from Ricardo Pepi and newcomer Lutsharel Geertruida.

Geertruida made all of his first minutes in the home match against FC Groningen (5-1) on 23 August of last month. However, when away at FC Utrecht (1-6), the defender remained on the bench for ninety minutes.

Now Bosz was somewhat surprised by Geertruida setting up from the very beginning. In an interview with De Telegraaf, the coach looks back with satisfaction on the PSV player's performance.

''I thought he played well. You can ask yourself whether you should give him his first chance to play in a top match, but of course he is a boy with experience, who has already played this kind of match before'', says Bosz.

Then Bosz continues. ''I did think that he should take a few weeks to watch how we defend, because that's different from every other team in the Netherlands. We defend completely. So this time, he had to fully mark Julian Brandt, whom I thought was the best Ajax player. And that's not easy. I think Lutsharel really did that well. And in possession, he was an absolute asset. We already knew that. He's really a good footballer. Besides, he also scores a great goal and he managed to keep it up for a long time'', said the coach.

"We need more control in transitions." tbh i agree, but it also means one of our fullbacks cant be caught too high. Keep it tight for 70 minutes and then let the pace guys cook. 🔥

I like the intent, but the pressing triggers seem off. When the opposition can play through the first line, it turns into a jogging session for our midfield... and then we pay for it at the back.

Im not fully convinced by the tactical setup described. PSV are at their best when the 8 and 10 interchange, but the article makes it sound too rigid. Give me more freedom, and the intensity will look like 2023 again 👏⚽

Jeez, if the plan is high-risk fullbacks, then the off-ball work has to be perfect. Otherwise, we will get punished like always... also, who is marking the second ball at set pieces? 🤬

That quote about trusting the young lads is true, but i still think we need one more game-reading midfielder. Otherwise we get caught in those 2-touch counters 😅

"PSV Inside" better not gloss over the defensive duels. The article mentions the wing-backs pushing, but that means we need cover or its going to be long balls all night 💀

If PSV is going with this setup again, i swear it lives and dies on the wing duels. Luuk has to be sharper in the box if we want those quick second-ball finishes, otherwise it becomes too slow.

Bro, this is all about the build-up. When Tillman drops too deep, Gakpo gets isolated, and suddenly we are just recycling possession. Fix the spacing and we cook, fr 🔥

If PSV want to control games, they cant keep giving away those cheap transitions. The way the article frames the press, it sounds good but in practice it leaves gaps behind the midfield.
