Peter Bosz surprised after the selection of Xavi
1 min readAlso Peter Bosz has seen the first selection of Xavi Hernandez as head coach of the Netherlands national team. Ahead of FC Twente - PSV on Sunday afternoon, Bosz, during the press conference, responds extensively to the choices made by the Spanish coach.
In addition, PSV coach notices that Guus Til has not been selected. Til was present in Ronald Koeman’s World Cup squad last summer, but has now not received an invitation from Xavi and that, in a certain sense, causes some surprise for Bosz.
The midfielder also had to receive the news via the media. ''For him personally, that is incredibly unfortunate. He didn't even get a call. That is quite unusual, because he was there at the World Cup. Guus had to learn via the media that he was not in the squad'', says Bosz, as quoted by Voetbal International.
Last season, Til had a strong year at PSV as a substitute striker, and partly because of that, the midfielder came back into view for then national team coach Ronald Koeman, and Koeman decided to take the PSV player with him to the World Cup in North America. There, Til came on as a substitute during the second group match against Sweden, and for the rest of the tournament the substitute striker remained on the bench.

Wing forward Ruben van Bommel, on the other hand, has also been called up, just like defender Lutsharel Geertruida, and in particular the call-up for Van Bommel is doing a lot of good for the PSV coach. ''That makes me certainly proud. If one of my players gets selected, that is always nice. It is special for him and also for the PSV club. We are proud of that. I think he is also very happy about it'', the PSV coach said about Xavi's selection.

Bosz's pride on Van Bommel sounds earned. I do wonder though if Xavi's first picks are about roles and fit, not just performance, because Til looked like he deserved a chance.
Bro if you were at the World Cup and you still learn it via media, that is cold 💀 Also why Ruben gets in while Til stays out? Bosz is not wrong to question that.
Til not selected after Koeman took him to the World Cup is basically a political decision not form. I hope this doesnt mess with his confidence before Twente-PSV, because we need his energy 🔥
Van Bommel being called up makes me smile, thats proper reward for his season. Geertruida too, at least Xavi recognized the PSV structure in defence.
"That is quite special." Bosz was clearly stunned by the lack of phone call, and i get it. At World Cup level you would expect at least some respect.
No call for Guus Til is rough... tbh he was actually part of our momentum last season. If Xavi really wants form, that should have been a no-brainer.
Bosz being proud of Ruben van Bommel getting called up is fair, but im more annoyed about the Til situation. If Xavi thinks Til is not ready, at least be decent and give him a heads up.
Not selecting Guus Til is wild imo, he was really useful for us off the bench. Bosz saying Til didnt even get a phone call is heartbreaking tbh.
