Paul Wanner points to FC Bayern Munich and to Borussia Dortmund

1 min read

Paul Wanner keeps them close on their heels, and so the Austrian-German PSV player keeps a close eye on Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern München.

Last season, Paul Wanner came to PSV from FC Bayern München for fifteen million euros. It took a long time before Wanner made it into the starting lineup.

The midfielder entered with an injury, and it ultimately wasn’t until November 2025 that the talented international from Austria also started for PSV. This season, Wanner especially has a lot of competition to contend with from the youth player Noah Fernandez.

In addition, the Austrian international is full of praise for Ismael Saibari and Joey Veerman. Both players made a transfer to the Bundesliga last summer, Saibari to FC Bayern and Veerman to Borussia Dortmund, after a great season with PSV.

First, the midfielder begins by talking about Veerman. ''I think that was also seen, at least partially, in the first matches. Joey is a very, very good player and has very good technique'', the Austrian international says with praise in the podcast Kicker meets DAZN by the German outlet Kicker.

Then Wanner, impressed by the qualities of the Volendam player with the ball, says: ''An incredible calm on the ball and he also recognizes whether he can read the game very well. Of course, with his passes he can also determine the tempo himself, and from that one can learn an extreme amount. It was also great fun to play together with him for a year. Dortmund got a good one there,'' the PSV player said about Veerman.

Saibari is also discussed. ''They also got a good one,'' Wanner begins about the fact that the Moroccan international has left for FC Bayern. ''Ismael Saibari, how good is the man?'', the podcast presenter asks next.

''Ismael was, of course, a game-changer for us last season. He is a very complete player, dynamic, and dangerous in front of goal. He scored a lot of goals for us last season, and Bayern has also signed a very, very good player because of that. They can look forward to that. He is very physical, but despite that, also dynamic. He is very good in one-on-one situations, dangerous in front of goal, and he provides assists. That's why I have every confidence that Ismael will play an important role at Bayern'', concludes the PSV midfielder.
