Notable suggestion regarding the national team coaching job: “He once even said that he is open to working for a country.”
1 min readIt certainly looks like Arne Slot will not become the new head coach of the Netherlands national team, as Slot has indicated that he would rather have a club preference than become head coach. As a result, the chance is possibly even greater that the KNVB will end up choosing former PSV player Michael Reiziger.
According to VI journalist Martijn Krabbendam, the player is also the dream candidate to succeed Ronald Koeman. Krabbendam said this last month on Today Inside Oranje.
Nevertheless, the KNVB, according to Mike Verweij, would do well to engage in conversation with no one less than Louis van Gaal. Verweij says this in the podcast Kick-off by De Telegraaf.
''Michael Reiziger is now of course mentioned a lot, but I think maybe it could be Louis van Gaal who is an idea for Nigel de Jong. He has experienced two World Cups, but maybe it would also be fun to let Louis experience a European Championship as well. He has previously said that he is open to a country. After that he got serious health problems, so I don't know what it's like now. I do think it's a special thought that he could return to the Netherlands national team again'', the journalist says.

According to the reporter, Reiziger could also learn a great deal from Van Gaal. ''If the KNVB is anyway planning to make Michael Reiziger head coach one day, why not let him shadow Louis for two years instead. That would be a nice solution,'' Verweij continues.
In addition, the reporter believes that it’s time to take action within the KNVB. ''What is that KNVB waiting for? It’s time for decisive action now, and your first Nations League match is, in fact, against Germany. That’s quite a tough match. Something has to be done properly, with purpose. For me it’s not that difficult. You have to fly to Portugal and convince Louis (Van Gaal, ed.) and then you’re there,'' said Verweij.
